Mario Kart 8's completely normal Time Trial leaderboards

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was basically the last nail in Mario Kart 8's coffin. While some dedicated players stick with the Wii U title, they're forced to deal with some other players getting a tad... "creative" with the leaderboards. In this video, we take a look at some of the highest ranking times on the official Wii U online servers, getting to experience the many methods of achieving top tier times right before our eyes.
(In all seriousness, my heart goes out to any MK8 Wii U players... I can only imagine how annoying it would be to have to deal with leaderboards like this).

I feel like the most embarrassing ones are the ones that don’t use any cheats except modifying the end time, because then they just end up putting their incredibly mediocre driving at the top of the leaderboard for everyone to look at. Like I’d at least put on some silly cheats so I look funny, they’re just playing the game normally, and not very well at that.

i like how the ones that cheated to be really fast just crash into every wall imaginable

@DBogie 3 years ago

Imagine how crazy these times would be if they took decent lines

@luminousherbs 3 years ago

The really funny thing about all of these hacked times is that the people doing them are SO BAD at the game. It’s actually painful to watch them play.

I remember going through a whole race and crossing the finish line before the ghost, but still lost 😭

15:30 The infinite trick effect trail is super interesting. Also its pretty funny how they drive a 40 second lap, the lap time counts as like .013 seconds, and then the race ends and their time is like .003 seconds.

when you see the ghost fliping around, going against walls etc. It means that the players may have played (with cheats or not) on a custom tracks. That ghost data have been uploaded and then when replaying, the ghost do the same inputs as the player, but on the real tracks.

I once accidentally played with modded tracks in Mario Kart 8 online and the game just let me play. The other racers went through walls cuz they’re on the real track and it let me finish the race. So yeah 0 anti cheat

0:38 they took "i will get a world record in no time! " too literally

3:27 the last normal unhacked time has a Japanese username translating to “I really like cats.” How oddly wholesome that is ❤❤

6:11 This is actually very easy to explain. Playing as Wario always garuntees success.

6:11 He's clearly playing Wario Kart, not to be confused with Mario Kart. That game has some wild tech.

“These guys just decided to make sure that the only ghosts you can download are the ones who play worse than you.”

Best quote in video.

I feel like there's 3 types
1. not even pretending they aren't cheating
2. Embarrassingly bad/mediocre at best driving and only cheating the time
3. Trying to make it look like they just did some crazy tricks to break the timer or something stupid like that.

@megaing1322 3 years ago

What is so weird is that this would almost surely be incredibly trivial to check to at least remove the most egregious cheaters: There can't be more input data in time that the course took to complete, plus a bit of extra for before and after the track. That would probably make cheating a lot less appealing.

@Eztli__Void 3 years ago

I was hoping people would just launch themselves across the map to actually take that time instead of just editing the timer

@ValKawa01 2 years ago

This is what happens when you shift into second gear before the race even starts

Theres something similar in Pokemon Sun/Moon & Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon where people are offering impossible Pokemon for other impossible Pokemon. One such example is a Shiny Solgaleo for a female Magnemite
