I rented a car a Carin Quito and returned it in Cuenca. It took me 15 minutes to figure out the driving culture here in Ecuador.

Man, what a mess!  Thanks for sharing this information.

Government bureaucracy is an adventure in itself.

Is there not anyone in Canada that can do the leg work for you?

Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it ！

Whenever u travel u should change the mod of bank mesages on your email instead of phone so it become easy!!

Hi Warren! Your video was absolutely wonderful and packed with really helpful information. Wishing you all the best and hoping everything works out. Patience is truly a virtue, and I know you have plenty of it, my friend 😊. Until next time, as always, stay safe!

or  move  to  Cuena,,,   near  Tranvia,,,,

Bummer! Good luck with the Micros, lol 😆

Hey, I'm on Vilca and about to start this process. Thanks for doing the video

I think you are adapting very well. In my case, it took me about 10 months to really get used to life in Ecuador.

I wouldn't worry too much. Things usually work themselves out. I used to commute by bus in Loja myself. At first, I took taxis because everything was unfamiliar, but after a while I ended up taking the bus most of the time.

I bought my bus card at the bus stop in front of Simón Bolívar Park. As far as I know, you can probably buy one at any bus stop where there's a staff member. You can also reload it at nearby supermarkets.

I think your house seems to be a bit up on a hill, so walking home might be a bit tiring. I had a similar experience. When I first arrived in Loja, I didn't know the city at all, so I rented a place on a hill overlooking UTPL. Later, I moved to a flatter area near 10 de Agosto, which was much easier to get around.

Personally, I think not having a moto isn't really a problem when you want to visit Cuenca. I used to leave Loja in the morning, spend the whole day in Cuenca, and then take a bus back around 11 p.m. If I remember correctly, there was even a bus that left Cuenca around 1 a.m.
I assume you already know that you can ride the tram without a card. Even without a Cuenca bus card, there are still ways to use the buses. Also, I found Google Maps to be fairly reliable in Cuenca. As you know, it isn't always very accurate in Loja. I'm not sure what it's like now, though.

In my experience, people in Loja are very kind, so I think you'll meet plenty of people who are willing to help. I'll never forget the first day I moved from Cuenca to Loja. I felt a kind of genuine warmth from the locals there that I hadn't experienced in Cuenca. I asked a bus driver for directions, and two passengers stepped forward to help me, with one even taking me near my destination. In Cuenca, people view foreigners as tourists, and some even dislike them, saying that foreigners are driving up housing prices...

Stay safe, and thanks for sharing your video!

I would try your luck in Cuenca. Sometimes rules seem to be different at various locations of the same entity. For example, one branch of a certain bank may refuse you an account while another branch says welcome.

Hi Warren. Thanks for outlining this whole thing! Brings up a lot of interesting challenges. I can tell you for sure that the buses in Loja are really easy to use and the inter-city buses are just as easy and both quite affordable! Although, you might look kind of funny zooming around with your GoPro on your helmet in the bus! Your drone might not work too well in the buses either. Remember we gave your the bus card when we left in January. Ready to load it up! We will most likely be heading to Loja again in January so if you need something from Canada, just let us know.

Go to Aneta , another driver school

you can try for an IDP(international driving permit) offered in Canada and  excepted in 150 countries with a valid drivers licences,  and is excepted in Ecuador.

Seeing a stop sign and a stop light at the same time was rather odd.

I like how you rode to get your license, didn't get your license, rode home AND didn't get caught.  Here you can get away with almost anything but, the DMV office will go out of its way to punish you.  Thanks for sharing.

Let me forewarn you. After you complete the driving school, they have a test called "examen psicosensométrico" which is quite challenging. It is a sensory/motor test using strange equipment that feels like you are playing some kind of game. Nothing similar to driving a vehicle.

Tests of sensory perception (vision, hearing, touch) and motor coordination, similar to a neurological examination.

The eye exam is crazy so you best have great vision because you will be reading small letters that many need reading glasses to see.

The Driver's License lasts 5 years. When it expires, you need to redo the written and eye exam, as well as the examen psicosensométrico. Good luck!

Nice haircut
