This entire season IMO is just a giant contractual obligation for all of those involved. They're only doing it because they legally have to and HBO felt it was cheaper to make season 3 rather than pay off all of those involved.
I can’t believe Labrinth leaving the show hasn’t been talked about more. Sam Levinson is right, Euphoria would never have been what it was without its signature sound, and him leaving is a huge loss to the creative team. That’s bigger than any cast drama imo.
Sam L’s writing makes me think of that Marilyn Monroe biopic that didn’t at all get into the depth of who she was as a person, but instead just over sexualized her. Stop objectifying and over sexualizing these young women just for the sport of it.
I only ever hear conservatives say "I'm not into politics" and they almost ALWAYS talk about politics. They just don't want you to argue with them about it.
The best part of Euphoria S3 was Zendaya strolling in on the red carpet ready to dodge any BS and then immediately dropping her new clothing collab campaign the next day. She said WE are moving on 😂
i was a teenager once; i know teenagers have sex, that they drink and do drugs, etc. and im not expecting those topics to be addressed like an after-school special, but how levinson approaches it feels voyeuristic and glamorizing
and i could actually understand if it was being approached in an unrealistic way to try and capture the heightened emotions the teenaged characters feel. but i think barbie ferrera's right– he is completely uninterested in exploring things outside his own world view
like..... remember the idol? that show with the weeknd that he took over? how it was originally about how hollywood and misogyny affect young starlets but levinson made it about how the main actress likes and deserves being abused and in fact was the one who was manipulating the weeknd's character the whole time?
Lockdown was a big part of euphorias skyrocketing. Lockdown happened, so everyone decided to finally watch “that one popular show” from last year. Paired with the popularity of tik tok, which complimented euphoria’s visual aesthetic, and the subsequent “inspired by euphoria” makeup and outfit videos, it created the perfect storm for a fandom explosion.
sam levinson stole the show’s look from petra collins, who worked on the show during development and was let go for being “too young” and later found out that her visual style was entirely ripped off so much so that it was no longer hers and she felt that she had to come up with a new artistic voice
The thing that sucks is that whenever the show is talking about addiction, it is amazing. Some of the most powerful depictions of the spiral of addiction I've ever seen. But then the two special episodes in the pandemic aired, including what I think should have been a Emmy award winning episode, with Rue and her sponsor talking at the diner about addiction. Critics and audiences all said it was "too boring" and they wanted to get back to the drama. And so a powerful show about addiction just nosedived into a shock value cash grab filled with (more) teen nudity and questionable moral lessons. Euphoria is my biggest HBO disappointment, I'll watch the last episode of GOT before I watch season 3 of that trash.
Euphoria is a stolen show. Levinson stole the show from the actual director and the special episodes that are the best written were all co-written with women. He steals art from women. I rest my case.
