Tucked away in the historic Yanaka district, this lively local market attracts Tokyo residents, street food lovers and curious travellers searching for handmade snacks, vintage treasures, traditional crafts and authentic Japanese atmosphere.

As I explore, you’ll see everything from sizzling yakitori and freshly made taiyaki to tiny family-run shops, handmade souvenirs and retro collectibles. Shop owners greet visitors warmly, the smell of grilled street food fills the air, and every corner feels like stepping back into old Tokyo.

But this isn’t just a market walk... somewhere along this nostalgic street is a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered...

And of course, we can’t leave Yanaka Ginza without trying one of the area’s most famous local treats: crispy menchi katsu the legendary deep-fried minced meat cutlet loved by locals.
