Thanks for taking us along.  Love to see how others store fabrics.

What a big undertaking. I agree a destash of all sorts would be fun

Room of heaven! I'm a quilter and your fabric supplies are the stuff of dreams. Karen Brown gives really good advice about decluttering and the first two are the best. 1. Take out any thing that is trash. 2. Take out everything that isn't part of your business or quilting. 3. Be ruthless about what you will never use/sell and donate it.

I have made friends with some ladies that sew for charity and they love receiving a big bag of my scraps every 6 months!

A destash of fabric and kits is a great idea, also mystery bags of fabric. Thanks for sharing

So part of the challenge faced is getting rid of stuff that you won't ever use again. Take a business loss and sell at deep discount or donate. Shops track and move inventory all of the time. Destashing is vital for your success and mental health. If you "used"to make or use something get rid of it. You know what to do. Making more room is not the answer. Wishing you the best.

I love getting scrap bags of fabric and mystery items from quilters who no longer need them cuz it gives me ideas and things to use

I'm absolutely blown away by your stash. It's a sewers/crafters dream 😍I kept thinking that you could package up some bundles for slow stitchers - more work, I know. Loved your childhood plates. It must be lovely to have something from that time.

Yes, destach!   I am in the same boat.  Donate  fabric and quilts to Quilt Guilds for children’s hospital.  You will feel soooo much better to have more space!   🥰

×42 fat q's can be 2 layer cakes, 4 charm packs or 2 5×10's and a half jelly roll bundle, with long selvedges and sets of same sized scraps.  Or sell them as random bundles for another quilter to cut.  Kits can go in ziplocks, with a pattern and a note of what it is, for grab and sew, or baby quilts, or swap with friends.  it's up to you if you want to sell stuff on or fill up your shed too.  Your 1/2 yards will make easy fat q's  or Jelly roll strips, if you want to?  Think about it.

For last couple of months I realised the wardrobe in my “creative space”…my sewing room and office in a spare bedroom was not fitting my sewing purpose and so I  dismantled it, painted the walls in a new colour, new carpet, new cupboards and re-purposed a beautiful vintage wardrobe we reno’d in late 1980s to have lead lights and glass shelves…now housing my fabric that I have wrapped around on comic book card - this has been a game changer for having the fabric so neat and organised (because now you can see it).  Also bought a stand up electric desk…again, another game changer.
I have recently started volunteering at a sewing/craft charity shop which I love because I get to talk to “sewing people”…so today I took in 6 bags of fabric I have bought since renewing my sewing skills 5 years ago and realised I now am more interested in different fabrics (including from your shop!).  How wonderful to see some of it walking out the shop during my shift today to new homes with fellow creative people.

When I was a little girl about 12, I found an ad in moms sewing book, they sold gallon bag of odd n ends lace, ribbons, buttons, trinkets ect. Mom let me order from them and I used them to sew doll clothes, and other things.  It was a good way for the store to move odds n ends. You should try something like that for kids projects to sell online. There is a plant in Olk. That does this with fabric in small boxes my aunt buys from them. They don’t sell online but I just have her pick me up a few boxes. It’s a good way to move stuff you no longer want. Just a thought. Great video.

You should make a section of your shop a Doom Room Sales.    Put it all in there!!!  You will be amazed at how quickly things will sell.

If you had space you could buy a large shed and arrange the fabric there, I have a shed as my sewing room. I would keep a  bookcase for things I want to sell immediately so they are on hand for posting.  I am in my sixty’s now and I have made a rule that I will only buy what I will use up as I do not want to leave all of this for my family to sort when I am not here.

Hi Tamsyn, Loved your Room of Doom video. I have moved to Victoria, and had to declutter (a few things) before I left WA, and am setting up my new sewing room, an absolute luxury; envious of you having someone to assist in setting up your shelves, I flat packed mine and slow in putting them together, I would rather quilt, and just finishing off my first project, table mats. I will then start my next quilt and very, very likely to send it over to you to do your Longarm magic, again, always very happy with your work and advice. So pleased I can watch your amazing videos, thank you Tamsyn.

I loved seeing this - Well done!  and I drooled over the Tilda Merry Little Christmas bolts you still have. We can't find much left here in the US. I'd love to purchase both your bolts of the Character. prints. Wishing....

Ansonsten an gemeinnützige Organisationen spenden ! Es ist auch besser wenn man sich nur auf eine Sache konzentriert ,sonst werden sie nicht mehr Herr der Lage . 😊

You did a great job. Wouldn't there be someone who would love those beads etc for their small business, you could sell too. Yes, put all those kits in your shop. You could probably make enough money to pay for your new shelves. Good luck.

Well Tamsyn, I too have an impossible stash. I have a rented storage unit full of needlework supplies - threads, linens, canvas, patterns, everything. I have a supply of beads from my beading days. I sold the Austrian crystals and the findings but kept the turquoise, the 14k gold, the lapis, the semiprecious stones. They are in my garage. The house has tubs and tubs of fabrics, patterns, sewing notions all for quilting. They are in the family room, one bedroom, and in waterproof tubs in the garage. The sewing machines are tucked any place I can find. The small machine is in my car. And the quilting fabric has morphed into a corner of the living room. It’s overwhelming. I have giving things away and reorganized but barely made a dent. And more beautiful fabrics keep appearing. I need to stop.  Thanks for the video.❤Carol 🦮🐈‍⬛ and my fur babies

You could do a Doom Room Tuesday or whatever day video.  Like your what’s new Wednesday.  Or end every what’s new Wednesday video with what’s ready to leave.  ❤🎉
