Nice review! How’s this compared to the voigtlander 35mm f1.4 classic on a Sony? I hav3 and love the 35mm nokton classic ii which pairs really well with Sony as well with no smearing, and pretty sharp when stopped down too. I’m wondering what else does this lens will add compared to the cheaper and lighter cv?

I recently purchased this lens in black. Great lens and it is now the one I reach for most often. One question for you (or your other viewers) is how to use an ND filter on this lens. LLL has used 0.5mm pitched threads on the lens (vs. the standard 0.75mm on all modern lenses) so any modern ND filter will strip the threads. I know the old vintage Leica lens hood for the original double aspherical came apart and one could insert a Series 7 filter into the hood. But that is not an option that comes with this lens as it is one piece. I'm even struggling to find a clear or UV filter to use with this lens as the one from LLL made for this lens is out of stock. Thoughts or suggestions?

Interesting that you say the lens hood is plastic, I've just received my black aluminum copy and the hood definitely aluminum. Maybe this was plastic for the review copies? The website also states the hood is matching the material of the lens. My copy of the hood is also rock solid, so it seems like they've improved the tolerances on it!

I’m in a similar position of trying to find an alternative to my 35mm color skopar. Interested to see your thoughts on the Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 III/IV, Thypoch 35mm 1.4 and Mandler 35mm f2!

It is funny how much tastes vary, because I'd take a single 28 or 50 over a 35mm any day 🤣

Could you say more about why the Voigtlander 35/1.5 isn’t for you? Is it too clean and corrected for your taste? I’m currently looking for a small fast 35mm and this lens looked very promising, so it would be interesting to get your thoughts.

Very few people have actually used the original 11873 lens, so what's the point of using a replica? And it's not worth the price. I'm still much more satisfied with the more mainstream 11874.

If you check the current catalogs of the main optical glass manufacturers (Hoya, Hikari (Nikon), Schott (Zeiss), CDGM, Ohara),   lanthanum "crowns" (LaK, LaSK) and "flints" (LaF, LaSF)  glasses are everywhere. They are still widely used  glass throughout the industry.     "Glow" can be related to spherical aberration and coma; it doesn't inherently depend on the type of glass but on the degree of correction.
Glasses that are somewhat rare in optics today are perhaps the "oldest", barium types (BaK, BaF, BaSF). Those were used  prior to 1950s (there weren't many others).  Lanthanum (and thorium) was reserved for high-end, expensive "fast" lenses (Canon 50mm f/1.2 and f/0.9, Nikon 5cm f/1.1, Kodak AeroEktars, Takumars, etc). Later,  when their use became widespread (late 50s to 60s), nobody boasted about it anymore; it ceased to be a talking point.  Most lenses  from the 70s onwards have some lanthanum glass among their parts (at least those in the mid-to-high price range, "pro" lenses)

Performs poorly close up. I had an instructor who owned a Rodenstock 480 APO MACRO. Amazing at 1-1 and closer. At infinity you could focus Red and Blue separately!
