Opening the tubs at these stages is like waking up on Christmas morning again and again.

Lol, i literally woke up to get ready to leave for work and saw I had some harvesting to do and don't have time until I get home tonight , so I had to pluck the two that were the most ready. 😅

You dont actually lose yield by harvesting before before spores drop. Mycelium just saves that energy to next flush. Íf you think about it.

Hey there! Been growing different mushrooms on and off for almost 20 years now. Came across your content and I love it, straight to the point not overly complicated, and solid info. I have always had the issue of locking in the harvest/pick time. I cant even count how common it is for me when its bed time and mushrooms are not quite ready to harvest, look like they need another day, day and a half.... I go to bed and wake up only to find over night they would speed run to become over grown, full spread open caps, black spores covering every mushroom cap surface below lol.  It used to frustrate, me but I have now found it to be part of the mushrooms charm lol.

Few things I would like to to note on this specific topic, some things you covered others not so much... and please feel free to correct me if you have a differing opinion growing is a hobby like cooking, while there are general rules and framework, every chef has a bit of there own style lol.

1) While its a pain/mess/ascetically unappealing to some, mushrooms that have dropped spores, and or have caps that are covered in black spore dust does not impact the mushroom quality/potency. Its just part of the life cycle that mushrooms do and at the sport drop stage you have not over grown them to a point that it has a negative impact on the mushroom itself.
2) Cleaning the fruit... You can do this if you want but if you have a mushroom that is picked but just cap covered in spores and you dont like that look, you can take it over to the sink or get a spray mist bottle, and rinse off the spores from the fruit. You will never get all over them off but you can get a good % of them cleaned off, specially using cool low pressure running water to rinse, along side  sprayer/mister used like a squirt gun to target specific areas to help knock any stubborn spores the wont rinse off. Also it can leave some cool patterns/designs on the mushroom cap after you fully dehydrate them
3) The down side to the spore drop on your substrate. Based on my anecdotal experience, substrates that have had a bunch of spores dumped on them tend to yield bit less in future flushes vs substrates that are not spore bombed. It is not a SIGNIFICANT different in amounts, that you should get rid of the tub or anything like that, but I get the feeling that the surface of the substrate being covered in spores makes it just a tad harder for the mat to recolonize, and form pins in that area, Not impossible, you can still get plenty of pins with spores on the surface, but its just takes the network a bit more energy to get to that pin point, and also high chance of aborts.
4) Aborts! NGL I love aborts lol. I mean obviously we all want hearty mushie buddies, but If I get a flush that has a ton of pins, or super small mushrooms, I enjoy collecting those and dehydrating them, like you said they tend to be slightly more potent  by body weight/mass which is a nice little perk. I like to collect a large jar of aborts and use them for micro dosing, or for making things, IE a ton of aborts dried, ground into powdered, then used to make mushroom chocolates, gummies, or tinctures/extracts. I have even been known to make what I call "trippy tequila" but you can use almost any beverage, bonus if its citric/citrus related beverage), where you take all your aborts, you DONT dehydrate them (Which if you dont know, wet mushrooms are more potent then dehydrated ones because of the fragility of Psilocin. Cubbensis produce both Psilocin and Psilocybin as they grow, and when you eat psilocybin it eventually converts into psilocin in your body....however because psilocin is so fragile to the outside world, it breaks down very easily by both oxygen and heat, (and not just hot heat ie above 120 degrees, but commonly begins to break down at room temperature once they are picked and no longer growing) However by eating freshly picked mushrooms you get the benefits of both these compounds in a slightly higher quantity. AAAANNNYWAYS back to Trippy Tequila, Take a 5th of tequila (I prefer a high proof golden  Reposado) and you just dump all your wet aborts right on into the bottle, and toss that bottle in the freezer and let it sit for a while, taking it out to shake things up every so often. I dont have a ratio amount to provide sadly, as for me its just toss in a bunch, adding more to the bottle over time. Anyone trying this may want to be a bit more responsible and actually come out with measurements / ratios and do some research. Always start slow with your tequila never doing more than 1 or 2 shots over the first 2 hours just to see how strong it is.

I only harvest the ones that are ready. I harvest a single flush in stages over several days. But, that just works best for me.

Always read for GT to do it right before/as the veil breaks, Ochras wait for the cap to curl up a bit since their veils break early, and Pan Cyans to wait for them to flatten out.

I've been dehydrating at 95 F, the lowest my unit will go. I saw a video where the guy swore by drying with a fan, at room temperature (75 F or so) and I'm trying that right now. It would be interesting to see you do a comparison video about drying at different temperatures.
Great video today. I'm in the middle of my second flush. For "reasons," this time it's fruiting right out the top of 2 mason jars. Even though it's not ideal, it's amazing how well it works and how fast the second flush is coming in.

Is there a difference in this process in a tub vs a bag? Also how should the bag be prepped after the first flush?
