I’m kinda curious what other people think will happen so I am writing this post to open a discussion in the comments about what will happen (please feel free to throw whatever thoughts you have out there, doesn’t need to match my little list)
(Spoilers for danganronpa and for the new 2 x 2 demo)
I’m not sure if you mentioned this in the video yet, but I remember hearing from somewhere that they originally wants to do the first game as a remake, but they couldn’t do it due to having problems with the cannon, so I hope that helps with anyone wanting to theory craft. Yet again they may also be lying to us (like they do in most of their promotions). Another thing is that in the demo, what looks to be the word “bug” is spelt out by the demo victim.

Also I want to point out that (if they stick to doing a revamp of danganronpa 2 but alternative scenarios), then we may get:
-a new character turned into a robot
-new character with rememberence disease
-making a video game on another tragic incident involving the students (in my opinion, the most likely will be reusing chapter 2, with one of the girls killing baby gansta)
-(potentially) Izuru being awoken early (cause of the bullet from the mono beast in the prologue)
-More imposter content
-updating the tamagotchi that you get
-(potentially) somebody else getting the Russian roulette files
-more future foundation (specifically the original surviving cast) moments, or at least better graphics in the original remade scenario (you mentioned this in your video).

a DR1 remake was actualy considered, but they decided against it because DR1's events are the backbone of the whole franchise so they don't want to change them, and there's really no use of a remake of a mystery novel without new mysteries

Ryota Mitarai getting to be a surprise character in 2x2 would go wild

I think it would be funny if 2x2 was a cover for a genuinely entirely separate cast & scenario

Kodaka said in a Interview that Danganronpa 2x2 will be considerably longer and more complex than Goodbye Despair. I have a theory that some members of the Future Foundation from Chapter 1 will enter the simulation to stop Monokuma and will get trapped with of students. My bets on the Characters are: Ryota Mitarai (he as already part of the Danganronpa 2 group), Seiko, Ruruka e Izayoi. This would allow us to have a Chapter 7 or 8 in the game

Danganronpa V2 and having it be Rantaro's game would be peak

In addition to new sprites for Makoto, Byakuya and Kyoko, there would also be new sprites for Junko too!

If they make a new Dangan game after this, then I hope it's just a completely new cast.

I would've loved to see an alternate V3 scenario where Kaede was actually the protagonist.

This actually reminds of Persona 4 Revival (another one of my most anticipated games) in a way.

Mainly due to the yellow theme for the game cover.

Actually for Trigger Happy Havoc is Persona 5 for red, and V3 is Persona 3 for blue.

They basically have no reason to not make just a remake of dr1 once 2x2 is done, since they are remaking the original scenario they literally have to make the entirety of the dr1 map for the ending

I'm interested in knowing why people want Mahiru as Dr 2x2's protag. Is it a popularity thing?Seriously, if this is you, let me know why. my opinion of her essentially boils down to, Meh. Her personality isn't all that intriguing, exciting or provocative, nor complex. She's not relevant to the overarching plot. And doesn't have all that much room for character development. Unlike Peko, Hiyoko, Nagito, (Imposter)Byakuya, or Akane. But seriously, I'd love to hear why people are so interested in her.

I have a feeling this is definitely a reboot of the series. While Kodaka is involved in supervising the writing, he is not the one writing the new scenario. Yoichiro Koizumi is the new writer, and presumably going to take over for Kodaka in future installments of Danganronpa, since Kodaka left Spike Chunsoft to make Too Kyo Games, and is probably wanting to focus on other games at his new company, like Rain Code, Hundred Line, etc. Kodaka may help with Danganronpa games in the future, like he is helping with 2x2, but I doubt he'll be the main writer, considering Danganronpa is a Spike Chunsoft IP.

As such, I think Spike Chunsoft wants to make a new reboot and canon for Danganronpa, one Koizumi can build upon in future games. Kodaka's canon was pretty set in stone, and left in a weird spot. One, it was tied to the Danganronpa anime, which a lot of fans disliked. And two, the Danganronpa V3 ending, a controversial ending, kinda left Danganronpa in a bind, since any games between Danganronpa 2 and V3 are "fictional" in the game world, so would have less of an impact, due to V3's ending basically writing it off as a game show that the "real world" watched for entertainment. It would be hard to write an ending for any Danganronpa game that wouldn't interfere with the ending of V3. It was done this way intentionally by Kodaka, to kinda put the series to rest, as he was going to leave to make his own game studio.

As such, the series needs a reboot, one that breaks away from V3 and likely the anime. At first, they planned on Danganronpa 1, but realized that they couldn't really change anything, since it's the foundation of Danganronpa. As such, they chose the second game to make a reboot happen in. This keeps Danganronpa 1 canon, but allows the scenario to become a launch for a new reboot and new canon. I think we'll have the Kodaka canon and the Koizumi canon. Kodaka canon will be the series as it is now. Danganronpa 1, 2, V3, UDG, Anime, 0, etc. Koizumi canon will likely be Danganronpa 1 as it is now, and the new scenario in 2x2, which can lead to a new, alternate canon for Danganronpa to lead to new killing games, without the bind V3 and the anime caused to the series.

For this reboot, things will likely change in the canon compared to the current canon. They would want to make it something they can build upon in the future, and likely want to avoid tying it to the anime. To do so, they will probably make some big changes that make the Danganronpa anime no longer canon in Koizumi's canon. This would also be used to break expectations in Danganronpa 2x2, like the main twists. After all, how are they planning on writing a Chapter 6 if the players likely already know the major twists, like the Ultimate Despair cast, Chiaki being AI, Hajime being Izuru, etc.? To me, I think this alternate scenario is going to really be alternate. They're going to make some changes that make the Danganronpa cast go through an entirely different story that Koizumi can make future installments of.

I think one of the major twists we'll see will be Chiaki. I'm not sure if they will go down her AI route again. If they make the anime no longer canon for Koizumi's canon, she may actually no longer be an AI. I have little doubts they don't plan on using the Neo World Program, as the intro in the trailer was just as glitchy as it was in the main game, but I could see them needing to make some twists for this alternate scenario, and Chiaki being AI is one of the major twists and is heavily tied to her character. Seeing as Chiaki is incredibly popular, I highly doubt she is getting an early death, just like I highly doubt Nagito is dying early. I can see Hajime dying, but these two will likely last a bit longer in the game, and may even be survivors this time around. I have a feeling the ultimate twist with them being Ultimate Despair may be written away as well, and they may be on the island for an entirely different reason. Danganronpa hates being predictable, after all. Without a doubt, this scenario is going to do things very few players ever really consider.

I truly believe that this will be a reboot of the Danganronpa canon so Koizumi can write future games in the series, without it affecting the canon Kodaka made. This means 2x2 will also be the perfect game to keep both canons alive. One route to go down Kodaka's established canon, the old scenario remade, and the other route to go down Koizumi's new canon.

Likely, they chose a reboot for this exact reason, to break ties to the current canon. V3 ending really made it hard for Spike Chunsoft to make a new Danganronpa game with a new cast and stakes, since V3's current canon ending would make the new game "fictional". To break away from V3 is required for future Danganronpa games, and the best way to do that is an alternate route in the second game, one different enough to show it is an entirely different canon, not tied to the current one. It also allows Koizumi, the new writer for Danganronpa, to work with Kodaka to make a killing game and hone his craft for when he makes a new Danganronpa game without Kodaka's characters and canon. They also likely chose a reboot to not destroy V3's canon status. Fans of V3 may find it disheartening if they made it's ending not canon for the main canon. Splitting the canon into the writer canons keeps V3 canon in Kodaka's canon, but not in Koizumi's. It makes V3 have a point in Kodaka's canon, instead of making it pointless by choosing to make V3 not canon when developing future games.

Overall, this is most definitely a reboot, so Danganronpa can continue without Kodaka at the helm, and so it can continue without V3's ending binding the future games in the series. 2x2 is where the canons split, so you can choose which Danganronpa 2 you want to follow. Future games will likely go into Koizumi's new canon, and Kodaka's canon will likely end as it currently is, no new games, with Danganronpa being a fictional series in the game in V3.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I have a feeling this is likely the answer.

i recently finished watching a walkthrough of v3 and i feel so empty of danganronpa content so im really excited for this one coming out!
