Spanish Girl Reacts to The Greatest Invention of 20th Century: Air Conditioning. The Fat Electrician

Spanish Girl Reacts

Air conditioning might be one of the most important inventions ever… 😳❄️🇺🇸

In this video, I react for the first time to “The Greatest Invention of 20th Century: Air Conditioning” from The Fat Files by The Fat Electrician, and wow… I never thought I would be this interested in the history of air conditioning 😅✨

As a Spanish girl and European, air conditioning is something I usually think of as a normal comfort, especially during hot summers. But this video made me realize how much AC actually changed modern life, cities, homes, workplaces, schools, hospitals, factories, technology, and even the way people live in different parts of America 🇺🇸💛

In this video, he talks about the history of air conditioning and how it became one of the most important inventions of the 20th century. He also mentions how in Europe people don’t use AC as much, which I understand in some countries, but in Spain I definitely use air conditioning, and many people in Southern Europe do too, because our summers can get extremely hot 😅🌡️

One thing I found really interesting was learning how, in the beginning, air conditioning was used in theaters and cinemas, and people would go there not only to watch a movie or a show, but also to escape the heat. That made me realize how powerful this invention was even before it became common in homes 🎬❄️

I love discovering topics like this because they show that American history and culture are not only about wars, presidents, music, food, or road trips — sometimes something as “simple” as air conditioning can completely transform daily life.

What surprised me the most was realizing that AC is not just about comfort. Without air conditioning, we probably wouldn’t have many of the things we use today in the same way — including the internet, data centers, computers, and modern technology that needs cooling to work properly 😳💻

Watching this made me think about how different life must have been before AC, especially in very hot places in the United States like Texas, Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, and other Southern states. I can’t imagine trying to live, work, sleep, or build modern cities in that heat without it.

Air conditioning really is a great invention, and this video made me appreciate it so much more. It didn’t just make people more comfortable — it changed where people could live, how buildings were designed, how businesses worked, and how society developed.

As a European reacting to American history, inventions, and culture, this was such a different but fascinating topic. It made me appreciate something I normally take for granted and see it from a completely new perspective.

The rant is about people that complain about heat and refuse to buy AC.

You can see his passion about this. He was a medic. If you tell a medic, (especially a military medic) that there are deaths taking place, and there is a preventive measure, but your not going to. Any medic I have met would be chewing ass with smoke rolling out of their ears.

Like Nick, I have gotten into an obscene about of arguments with Europeans regarding AC. Specifically idiots from the UK, France, and Germany. 175,000 people die a year compared to 2,000 in the US where it's MUCH hotter, and far too many idiots just say it's the price of global warming. They've accepted that a yearly genocide is just the way things are over there. It's infuriating as an American because it's needless, senseless, and evil of their governments. In America, I have never been to a gun range that DIDN'T have AC. In Germany meanwhile, they build hospitals WITHOUT AC.

"when it's very hot you feel more tired and can be less productive... in Spain we have a siesta - people need to have a nap because of the heat". Wow, I feel kinda dumb - I've known about the Spanish siesta and eating late at night but somehow never figured out the reason for it. Now that I know it makes SO MUCH SENSE. Thanks for the info!

Air Conditioning: over 40% of homes in Spain have it, 56% in Italy, 24% in France and less than 5% in the UK. I actually watched some news program in France where an environmentalist was saying that Air Conditioning is bad because it takes heat out of homes and make the streets outside 1 degree hotter. France is so bad, that people have to have a government permit to have any type of air conditioning and the Gov't might say, no, just open your windows at night or use more fans. Instead, they'd rather have 175,000 ppl die.

I think it’s mostly the Brits and the French that were making a big deal about A/C during soccer tournament.

What really upset me was finding out that hospitals in many European countries don't have ac. German hospitals don't have it, for instance.

Why? There's no logical reason. AC helps prevent bacterial growth by keeping down humidity, patients are less susceptible to heat-related illnesses, hospital staff and patients are more comfortable, which means less anxiety, etc. It just makes absolutely no sense.😞

Community note, AC in an insulated box or room is refrigeration. Yep an end to most mass starvation and medicine refrigeration like antibiotics and vaccines. Yep we invented it you enjoy it. Your welcome. We also invented a swamp cooler that workes in a desert by water evaporation .

Nic outdid himself with this video! One of his best!

In the summer 60% of America is very hot. We all need AC to get through the three to four months of summer heat.

A lot of Germany, Britain, France, and other countires in Europe don't use air conditioning in their homes and hospitals. It is a European problem, but for the video, he just focused primarily on France and Britain.

This was an epic rant. All of our ice cream would melt too.

Most of the news from the European continent the USA gets is from the northern countries.
And as you read, the BBC, in their tagline, used the word Europe, to imply the entire continent, while the article is about England, France and Germany

I was in La Campana Spain for 3 months in 1991. A small town and the only building in that town with AC was the bank and it was packed with people just standing around trying to get some relief from the July heat. I befriended a bar owner by the name of Pepe. I asked Pepe if he wanted an air conditioner and he said he could not afford one. Two days later I walked into Pepes bar with a window AC as a gift for him because he and his family were so nice and took good care of me. I had to do a little electrical work to his Electric Panel for it to work but things like that are easy for me. Needless to say, Bar Pepe became the place to go for a meal, and beer and some AC. Pepe's business increased dramatically. He told me if he had any idea his business would grow so much that he would have AC years ago.

24:50 All 50 States use AC, but some States run it longer at certain times of the year than other States. But we actually don't think of it as AC, but rather HVAC, which stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and a lot of it falls into the category of "Central AC", meaning it's quite literally built into the walls of the house, and the same system that delivers cool air also delivers heat. If we set our system for 72°F (22°C), then during the Summer the AC will run to cool the temperature down to 72°, but then in the Winter the heat will run to warm the house up to that temperature. During milder weather, the system won't work hard at all, while during more extreme weather, it will work more diligently to maintain that set temperature. And then there are programmable systems that will raise and lower the temperature automatically throughout the day. HVAC is significantly more advanced than a lot of Europeans realize.

Your air conditioner joke at the end was a like the cherry on top.

Baby powder absorbs moisture, so many people use it to control sweat in sensitive areas.

@paulwagner6705 3 weeks ago

As someone who lives in the northeastern part of America I can tell you that our temperatures here during the summer can top 110 degrees Fahrenheit which is somewhere around 40 - 45 degrees Celsius

This is not hyperbole. It really would be that hot. The air at high altitudes is cold and way too thin to breathe. So they use the engines to pressurize the air so that it is thick enough to breathe properly, but doing so superheats the air to around 200°C, or 392°F. In other words; almost 400 degrees, as he said. The air then has to be run through a series of AC units to cool it down to a safe temperature before being pumped into the cabin with the pilots and passengers.

Actually it gets pretty hot in the summer even in our northern states. Even Alaska or at least in the southern parts of Alaska can get pretty warm in the summer. Northern states are not as hot or hot for as long of a period of time as our southern states.
