This movie is the definition of “His pronouns are She/Her!”

“I made 5 Lactose Intolerant People watch Milk (Emotional)”

as a mexican trans woman this is a double hate crime

@leecalmdown 1 year ago

BIG respect to that one girl for just leaving

The thing is, a dramatic story about a closeted trans person pursuing HRT and surgery both to affirm their gender and to abandon an old life they deeply regret sounds like a kickass premise, but it has to be made by someone who has actual empathy and understanding for trans experiences.

Misread the title as “I made EVERY trans woman watch Emilia Pérez” and got really scared you were going do terrorize an already traumatized group

This is the first time I’ve thought “penis or vaginuhhhhhhh” in months and I’m pretty upset ngl

I really want to believe Emilia Perez is the sole reason Oscar voters will be required to actually watch the things they vote for now

Never seen Karla's interview prior to this, but i can't believe she basically said "i feel identified with black people because the online critics and "bullying" i'm currently receiving is a parallel to the way they were historically enslaved, wronged and abused before"

The depiction of Mexico in this movie is basically imagine if someone wanted to make a movie about Canadian culture, but their only reference was Canada as it appears in South Park, and then it's not like they didn't do more research but they FLAT-OUT REFUSED to do more research on Canada because "they already know everything they need to know"

My dad took me to watch Emilia Perez in the cinema because he heard that it was a trans story and Oscar nominated. Neither of us knew anything else about it before going in and had no idea what was awaiting us. While it was a baffling 2 hours of my life and at times incredibly uncomfortable, the discussion I was able to have with my dad afterwards was really important. Despite it being a dumpster fire of a movie, it opened a conversation between me and my dad about trans issues and the way our stories are told. And I think it made him understand me a bit more.

That's the only nice thing I can say about Emilia Perez.

I really need to be careful when I write novels, I was unaware a weird Frenchman could zero in on a single chapter to adapt that minor concept into a mess of a movie that offends everyone involved.

the bit where the girls get so bored they start passing around tboy pictures like its cocomelon was comedy gold

As a Trans Woman AND a Mexican, Emilia Perez is so painful, I get mad at the movie from both sides, such disrespect!!!

@jungtothehuimang 1 year ago

Being an offensive portrayal of both trans women and Mexicans is pretty bad, but like why do the songs also have to be the worst shit ever written. The music is DOOKIE. This is awful. It's offensive in every possible way.

Evasive, this was dam near a hate crime. AND DURING PRIDE MONTH??!!??

@kate-knowles 1 year ago

the girl with the blue sweater leaving early is so based of her

@sameoldsameold9239 1 year ago

Haha! The girl in blue never came back! I don't blame her. Is that the first walkout on this show? That's at least one award for this film. 😂

Can we also acknowledge that the trans actress who insisted on so many changes in the movie did not even correct the misgendering; the surgeries all being at the same time (never); the song about half man and half woman, etc etc etc? So weird.
