My all-time favorite professional athlete.

Mick was the greatest center fielder I ever seen play baseball and I sat in center field every year from 1965 until Tiger stadium closed. Great athlete great person

His father drove a truck all night and still found time to play catch. That detail hit me harder than any statistic.

❤My wife talks about that 1968 game all the time. She went to the 1968 last game when they won it all.  She was in law school at that time and the most of her classmates were there, too.

Good video. I knewMickey when I was young journalist for the Grand Rapids Press and later when I covered the Tjgers for the Ypsilanti Press. Mickey was not a slugger , but he had the ability to get big hits when it counted. He was rhe most graceful center fielder I ever saw. Also, he was a humble gentleman.

The Mik never left my mind, he was great. His career took a turn after his catch at Kansas City, a great catch, but, a shoulder injury never healed properly.  As a child I was “the Mik” had his batting stance down par. Loved his style and grace.😊

I started followed the Tigers in the 70's when I was a kid.  I listened to every game on the radio I could even in September when they were 19 games out of first place.  That was back when players stayed with one team.  Oh how I loved Kaline, Cash, Stanley, Northrup, Horton and so on.  Such great memories hearing Ernie Harwell call the shots.  Funny in my 60's I don't even follow the Tigers.

He was a great fielder, one of my favorites.

In Ypsilanti, Michigan, every kid in my 2nd grade class in 1967 and in the following years, we wore our caps using the same jaunty angle that Stanley wore his Tigers cap.  He looked like a God out there in center field at Tiger Stadium.  Just perfect.  I'll never forget him.

I was an 8 yr old that magical year. He was incredible to watch.

I remember so many deep shots deep into that 440 and, have no fear, that 24 jersey was seemingly GPS guided, which didn't even exist, to a perfectly glided point where the catch looked easy. I was fortunate enough to see it from a lot of angles in that old stadium. The dude was/is grace in every motion, and not one man played a shallower CF in MLB history

Mickey was my baseball hero growing. I was a young teenager in 1968 and was actually bummed the world did not get to see his magic in centerfield during the World Series. I wore number 24 throughout all the years I played, mostly in center field.

Kaline called him the best athlete his teammates had ever seen, and most fans cannot name him. That contrast is hard to accept.

Watching this, I realized I have cheered for the flashy players my whole life. The glove men deserve equal applause.

Amazing guy who went from center field to shortstop, and other positions. That's hard to do. Great job Mickey. I saw you play.

I remember Mickey, amazing player.💯💖

The greatest part, for me, of all the great recollections of so many players I have watched play M.L.B. baseball, is the LOVE that Bob Costas truly has for the game!

Bob is well known and has won many, many awards. But I KNOW he loves Major league Baseball as much as I do. And that's A LOT!

I'm a few years older than Bob. But, I give him credit for his obvious love of the game most fans WOULD NOT put as #1 on their list of favorite sports.

I love M.L.B. baseball and all its history. And so does Bob Costas!!
 Thank you Bob!

Mickey worked as a manufacturer's rep for suppliers of parts that were assembled on cars to the automakers after his career.  I saw him in lobbies waiting to see engineers and purchasing people like I was.  In typical fashion, he would sit quietly in the corner waiting for his name to be called.  I remember seeing a Maple Leaf hockey player, Tie Domi walk into a McDonald's restaurant of all places like he was King Louis XIV entering a state dinner.  Mickey wasn't like that.

He was terrified and still made the plays. That is real courage, and nobody talks about it enough.

We all remember Mickey Stanley
