You've got Bond Street, Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Green Park, Piccadilly and Hyde Park Corner all within 10 minutes walk from Grosvenor Square. In that part of town, would take longer to uber anywhere than walk.

Very comfortable in South Kensington. My favorite place to stay. Always look for a hotel near a tube station. But also walkable to many great neighborhoods including Knightsbridge (Harrods), museums, loads of restaurants, etc.

As a Londoner and knowing how expensive staying in any of these neighbourhoods is, I'd probably pick something on Tube Zone 2 where hotels are cheaper but it's no more than a 10/15min tube ride to the best places

I've always stayed in Paddington near Hyde Park. Close to train station, close to Lancaster Gate and Queensway. Nice pubs. Quiet at night.

There was no tube stations around you, you are meters away, a couple of blocks in American terms to Bond St., Station or Marble arch, also there’s so many buses around the area. You can get anywhere including every place that you visit on this video is within a 10 or 15 minute walk from your hotel. The beautiful thing about being in. London is walking.

We stayed in London on two occasions at the Tower Hotel, lately its name has been extended by adding"by Thistle". The night view of the Tower Bridge from your window is unbelieable, if you book a room with the bridge view. For me, the Thames river acts as one of the arteries of the city, and there is always a life there, day or night. You can board the Uber Boat at The Tower and in 20 min will arrive at the Parlament. The tube station is a short walk, too. Cannot get enough of London (and UK, of course)!❤

Bayswater has a nice vibe inbetween Paddington and Nottinghill. It had cheapish eatrories and eclectic shops, and is just a short bus ride to Portebello Road. Its also next to hide park and an ideal place to walk from to central locations via Edgeware Road to Oxford Street etc. Really nice to walk through Paddington on the way, infact I would say that its probably the best location to stay.

We pick a different area each time we go to London. I’m in the travel industry but I won’t stay in a hotel for my own vacations. London has so many great places to stay.

Grosvenor House is an iconic hotel on Park Lane . You can walk to Oxford Street, into the Park and cut through to Knightsbridge or simply walk up to Piccadilly . There are buses along Park Lane that will take you down Piccadilly or over to Southbank. (Busses slow but better for sightseeing) Cutting down Mayfair streets is a joy and while it's quieter at night walking back would be not difficult. As soon as you mentioned the walking bit I immediately knew that's not what you are used to . Everyone has different tastes but you can pay astronomical amounts for rubbish. Soho and Covent Garden too many pick pockets and over priced tourist restaurants. Staying on the Southbank is far more isolated than Perk Lane. The tube is for speed and to manoeuvre to more difficult locations. It's walk till to you drop or sit upstairs on a bus and let it take you anywhere. A black cab can always save you and yes expensive but on holiday it can be worth it. Enjoy everything.

I was lucky to get stationed in London in the mid ‘70s for 2 years. I worked and lived in Mayfair on Audley St. in view of Selfridges. I walked everywhere. There is so much more to see and do now but it is so crowded. When I was there I’d walk up Oxford St. and there would be only 3 to 5 people on either side of every block in the mornings. Now it is a crowded elevator vibe. I’m so thankful I got to live there.

I love the Kensington neighborhood. Close to metro. Lots of local charm easy to get around.

Nice summary. But if you want to go to Southwark, do not try asking the locals for "South Walk" they will not have a clue what you are talking about. It is pronounced "Suthuck." Strange but true.
My favourite neighbourhood, Hampstead, my daughter lives there, quiet and beautiful with the huge Hampstead Heath to explore and the best view of the London skyline from Parliament Hill.
If you want to be quiet but central then stay in Bloomsbury.

I’m about to visit for my third time. I booked in Paddington area. This is the second time because I loved the area so much! It’s 5 minutes to paddington rail/tube station. We are traveling from Heathrow straight through to paddington. This was our jumping off station to every area we ventured to. There’s plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs. It feels more like a local neighborhood which I like. We felt safe walking around especially at night after all the adventures we had. I like to rent flats so I can do my own cooking or bring back some takeaway and relax. I absolutely love London, her people and her history. I do have some of your suggestions earmarked to visit! Great video btw❤️

We visited England and stayed in Liverpool, the Lake District, and London. We didn't rent an Uber or take a taxi the entire time we were there. Planes, trains, the Tube, buses, and lots and lots of walking (oh, yes, and boats). We did take a couple of tours in small coaches (Hadrian's Wall and around one of the lochs) but otherwise it was eminently easy to get around with public transportation. We had to stop ourselves from getting blisters the first day in London because after we got off the Tube and checked into the hotel, we walked across Westminster Bridge and started walking and just kept on walking taking in all the sites that were just steps from each other. I'm positive there was some kind of public transportation available in the first place you stayed.

I can't think of anywhere in central London where you would need to catch an uber due to lack of tube station. There's also the buses.

About 5 years ago, I spend 10 nights in London. I’d been many times since 1973 so I knew all the areas. Because a friend who had never visited, wanted to go… I planned the trip. We are in our 60s but I talked her into staying in my favorite youth hostels. I’ve stayed in Sheratons, Hiltons & Marriotts there, but I prefer eating my budget instead of sleeping accommodations. Our first 3 nights was near Paddington, the next 3 nights was next to St Paul’s Cathedral, the last 4 nights was next to the British Museum. All areas offered something different, but my favorite area is Covent Garden… but I couldn’t find a Youth Hostel that was top grade there.

We've been to London several times. We've stayed in Ilford, we've stayed right in front of St Pauls Cathedral, and most recently on Frying Pan Alley by Spitalfields. The Spitalfields location was far by the best. It was a 5 minute walk to Liverpool St station and all London transportation. We had a great experience. I would definitely stay in this location again. We were minutes from Bricklane, markets, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, White Chapel, and the Tower. There was a Sainsbury and a Greggs close by. Hamilton Hall at Liverpool St was a great last stop of the day for a pint and a dinner.

We always stay in the Kensignton / Mayfair area. Queen Elizabeth line takes you directly to Paddington Station from Heathrow, lively neighborhood with everything from tourist traps to lovely little finds. Several tube stations are nearby and Hyde Park is within walking distance.
