Which version was your favorite? :)

Mario saved the Princess from one side, Luigi saved her from the other.

In the words of Jan Misali, the Game Boy version is "a port where you can finally play these classics on a screen that's too small to actually see the game".

I love how the Game Boy Colour version actually has a world map.

The amount of missing mushrooms in this video is astounding

Every copy of Super Mario Bros. is personalized.

The All-Stars version still looks so good. I adore the art style

I'm actually a speed runner (and current world record holder) of Speed Mario Bros., which is the version found in Ultimate NES Remix. I've never seen many of the top SMB players acknowledge its existence, so I was very excited to see you finally play it. It's certainly a difficult game to master due to the speed, but eventually you can actually do a lot of the tricks found in any% SMB. It's a joy to see someone as skilled as you struggle as much as I did when I first played it though.

Edit 9/28/25 - I am not the record holder anymore as some are addressing in the comments. The record was beaten a while back.

To fit the game onto the GBA's screen, they chose to cut out every fourth line of pixels. The result is shoulderless Mario.

I personally first played the game on 3DS Virtual Console, and right now my go-to is Switch Online. Hopefully I can get an NES to play it on that in the future, I already bought the cartridge.

RIP Super Mario Bros. 35 version :(

The movement is simply too optimized at this point etc. etc.

4:09 Gonna grab a mushroom to make sure I don't die anymore
Dies twice while trying to grab a mushroom

The Animal Crossing version seems to be designed to look like a nicer version of how it would look on our old TVs back in the late 80s and early 90s. Sort of like applying a VHS filter, but it's NES filtered.

you must be the type to take off mushrooms from your pizza seeing how you avoid them in this game

This video brings me back to the days where I would try to speedrun Super Mario Bros Deluxe using strats I found on YouTube for the NES version.  It went about as well as you'd expect.

growing up, i only had a GBC, so Deluxe was just the version of SMB that I knew. I struggled mightily with that game, and later in life, when i watched people play nes SMB, i was like "wow this really doesn't look that hard, why was i so bad?"

a few years ago, i played deluxe again and that game is DIFFICULT. the fact that you can only see six feet in front of your face is terrifying, and it leads to such moments as blind jumps in 8-1. it's awful. it's great.

Kosmic is such a SMB speedrunning legend. He can Speedrun the game while holding left instead of right. Absolutely mind blowing.

31:12 HE MISSED THE MUSHROOM 3 TIMES IN TOTAL!!!

Love how Kosmic took the "secret path" in the fds version and then instead of quitting at -3 he played 8 world in 2nd quest, also nice to know the double death glitch, want to know if it lets the player have 255 lives by dying twice with 0 lifes left

Once you get used to it, the Game Boy Color version is pretty fun with the red coins. It really adds to the gameplay. Would be great if they could port it to the Nintendo and have speed runs around collecting the red coins.
