It's a fact we often praise the rappers that are gone more than the legends that are still around :)

Rakim is the reason we have the Em's, Jay-Z's, Pac's, Kendrick 's, etc... Rakim, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, the old school OG'S.

OGs are back, baby!!!! This makes me so effin happy!!!!

God MC. Ain't nobody been able to touch Rakim. 40 years and he still killin it. Your favorite rapper's rapper.

The GOAT! The God MC! Peace!

I was waiting for your reaction on the God MC

And just the scratching in the first few seconds takes you back

Love your reaction, Bro.  Love how rooted you are in the culture and what matters.

On the Rakim front, even his contemporaries and so-called rivals started evolving their rhyming based on what he brought to the art form.  The way Kool G Rap, one of the great lyricists, rhymes today is not the way he rhymed when he first came out with “It’s a Demo” and “I’m Fly.”  Same with Big Daddy Kane — the way he rhymed prior to Rakim’s debut in ‘86 was not how he started rhyming in ‘87.  Chuck D admitted that it was Rakim whio made  him change the old style of rhyming he came out with on “Public Enemy Number One” to the rhyming style he came out with the next year (‘87) on “Rebel Without a Pause.”  Even the rappers who came before him started evolving their rhyming after what Rakim brought to the art form.  But, the way Rakim rhymes now is the way he came out rhyming, from day one.  The R definitely belongs on the Mt. Rushmore of emcees.

And don’t miss the Iceberg Slim double entendre in the last bar of the song.
