He seems like a genuinely humble fellow who acknowledges the sacrifices that were made by previous generations to get him to where he is.

I'm italian and it's really moving for me to see John's emotion while he learns about his grandfather's journey, you can see his eyes become wet at some point 🥺... John seems to be such a genuine sweet man and he's a great actor too ❤

Man the hardships that our ancestors faced, are sometimes really heartbreaking and the fact they overcame is the reason why we are here.

Thankyou Nonna, Zia Angelina, Mamma & Papa!

We're blessed!!

Amazing story of an amazing Paesano from Southern Italy. To all those people, Lucio Dalla wrote "Caruso", a song that reminds me of the story of John's grandfather and many others like him during those sad times in my country. Those souls should never be forgotten, as they had to suffer so much when they moved to the United States. Great human beings.

We're waiting for you in Apulia 🇮🇹🇺🇸

That's amazing!!!! John is his Grandfather's American Dream! We are all visitors in this world and we must do our best for our children.

I am the Son Of Italian immigrants from the Region of Molise. If I could go back in time and I could tell his Grandfather that his Grandson would become a famous movie star, I would show the Bowling Alley scene where he plays Jesus Quintana in The Big Lebowski, one of the most hysteri😮cally funny scenes in the history of Cinema, with Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi. I'd love to see his nonno's reaction. He supposedly ad libbed much of that scene.

He seems like an amazing man…. Imagine the person he is speaking to had ancestors still in bondage. Food for thought

My great grandparents went to USA at the end of 19th century... My grandfather and all his brothers were born in Philadelphia. Then my  great grandfather got depressed because of being away from his country and they had to go back. My grandfather was only seven years old, when they came back, but his brothers were older and never adapted to life in a small village in southern Italy, so as soon as they reached the right age they left for the USA (after all they had American citizenship, so they would have had no problems). My grandfather, although an American citizen, decided to stay... His greatest regret was always not being able to enjoy the company of his brothers, with whom he exchanged letters and, sometimes, phone calls. One of them, every two or three years, returned for a few months, the others by then had family in America. Mom says that once grandpa went to visit them and when he came back, in front of the door of the house he said "Now I can even die..." . I never knew my grandfather, he died about a month after his return from that trip...

Amazing how they made the distinction of his skin color being “dark” on the census.
