You said something really telling, that LV are trying to keep up with the trends (as in Dior and Chanel), they should be creating the trends! Keeping up is for the high street!

Theyre too late jumping on the quiet luxury trend re the bags. The rtw I'll not mention because LV is a bag company and their clothes were always just an afterthought.

Louis Vuitton puts out three shows per year. For the typical handbag client, the bags on offer at the shows are many times one-offs or resee offerings to clients attending or approved. Every so often a style debuts on the runway and becomes a hit; Petit Malle, Side Trunk, Multipass, Express, etc., and remains in steady rotation. The crocs are croc and typically made in limited quantities, if produced en masse. Otherwise, they are typically made available for resee clients.

As for the RTW, the clients at the shows are RTW spending clients who also buy prior show pieces. The pieces that are produced (many are not due to complexity) typically sell in pre-reservations. That said, for the everyday client that likes luxury but not necessarily the forward-looking trends or offers from a Ghesquière, LV does at least a dozen handbag and RTW drops throughout the year that are more palatable to a buy now/wear now client. However, many of these selections feature design elements for bags or RTW the debuted in a show several seasons prior.

I really like and mostly only wear shoulder bags and even for me this was underwhelming. After the show was done I thought this was just intro into the real thing, but nope. I've been saying for years now, Nicolas Ghesquière has to go, clothes designs are horrible and any new bag he made was discontinued after 2-3 seasons. Pharrell is doing way better things for men, some of his collections I hate, some are wow, but he causes reaction with each of them. Nicolas collections are one snoozefest after another.

That show was absolutely horrible. I was SHOCKED!! It was blah. Was quiet luxury and mostly shoulder bags the entire goal? I was bummed but very much looking forward to the Monogram Cactus from the men’s line in the spring - the men’s line will be getting my money.

It is time for change in the women’s line. Many CAs tell me they are struggling to sell the bags.

The show was dreadful. At least the seasons leading up to it, which we’re getting worse and worse, had this sort of Maximalism weirdness that was at least a little entertaining to look at. And I totally get in this day and time, a giant brand like LV wanting to actually sell clothes. But it was scaled back so far that it was lifeless. I’m sure the fabrics in person are super lightweight and there’s interesting design and stitch work. But none of that came through in the photographs. Watching it helped a little, as at least the post moved and gave some sort of interest. But this was a huge huge mess. It’s sad because I used to love his work at Balenciaga. Those shows in the late 90s in 2000s were absolute fire. And to see him reduced to this is sad. I actually liked the bags? But those weren’t runway bags. All the wit and charm and French savoir-faire that Mark Jacobs pumped into the brand years ago is gone. What was once a brand that helped define “IT”bags, this was hard to watch.

Agree with you 1000%……. Eh is what I thought looking at LV bags…..guess my money is safe or going to hunt down more vintage Marc Jacob LV pieces. Those are much more interesting.

Yes I’m sad about Fendi, they have lost their sparkle. Too much silver h/w, not sure why they are moving from gold tone. To me the brand is looking colder and more masculine.

I have seen in shoes and this may be a bag thing as well, that there is a Season...meaning that I will love what is popular and what's popular style wise changes and nothing looks interesting

So the rumour is they are looking at Heidi Slimane as the next creative director, and we know he changes everything once he gets hired to a brand, the branding, the shops, the entire offering. It’s one of the reasons he didn’t get Chanel but what might make him perfect for Louis Vuitton. Pharells done a decent job on the men’s side, but Ghesquire is killing us all slowly on the women’s side 😂 Please let this rumour be true 🙏

I agree. The LV showed paled in comparison to Chanel and Hermes whom both had sensational shows. Shoulder bags are certainly making a come back but not for me either, particularly with 2 shoulder straps 😢 love my crossbody and/or top handles. Love your top by the way ❤ from NL 🇨🇦

Maria Gracia Chiuri is not a great creative director. She ruined Dior and now she is running Fendi. Just because she worked with Silvia Fendi when Silvia created the legendary Fendi baguette of the early 2000s doesn’t make her independently a good creative director. I mean, just look at her hideous Dior book tote. Thank god Jonathan Anderson has taken it to a different level which made the Dior book tote less of an insult to all of our intelligence.
