I learned about the existence of R-GT when I was trying to find out why the Lotus Exige in Forza had rally lights as an option. Always wanted to learn more about the class, thanks for making a video on it!

This is a tremendous topic, and while all information was very well backed and mostly accurate, there´s some extra (obscure) info and context missing that could have took it to another level.
The R-GT Class was very much created because there were a number of championships during the 2007-2011 period that really went crazy with their regulations and the kind of exotic RWD machinery they allowed, with the pinnacle of that being the Spanish Tarmac Championship.

During this period you could see there not only the Porsche 911 GT3s, but also Lotus Exige S2 units, Nissan 350Z, BMW E46 and most impressively, a couple FERRARI 360 Modenas!!
These Ferraris were built by Piedrafita Sport (the same team that helped Citroen Racing co-develop the Xsara Kit-Car, go figure!) and were decently competitive but more than that, insanely popular with the public, so much so that they are still remembered to this day as the most spectacular Rally Cars of the last 30 years in Spain by most people who saw them live.

I worked on DR2.0! I'm so glad there's someone out there who loves the R-GT cars! My personal preference was the Aston because it was the easiest to drive. Driving the RWDs on a game pad is outside my skillset, so I don't drive them much outside of tarmac. Forget about Sweden, haha.

Fun fact, Sebastien Loeb races the alpine R-GT in rally and he is often winning against R2 cars, showing that it is loved by not only spectator but also drivers.

One day , Roflwaffle might run out of Gran Turismo ideas; but he will never run out of ideas in general

Unfortunately, tarmac rally as a whole is massively underrated, not just the R-GT

Frankly i think Gr B in GT7 should just be RGT considering the cars there like the GTR, NSX and Mustang

So a round of the French tarmac championship has a stage that literally goes past my house. The RGT Porsches and Alpines are among the most popular cars in the series with the fans. It seems ridiculous that the category isn't that popular for some reason.

In regard to the opening, here in the United States the only rally that is made readily available for the longest time was the Dakar. We barely get coverage of the WRC and when we do its behind a paywall.

There is an older rally driver in my country who just bought an R-GT Porsche 911, he is gonna be the only one in his class but he says that he always wanted a 911 and he should probably buy it now if he wanted to get some good rally seasons in it.

I would die to see a form of rally that is full-on touge: GT300 Super GT cars with handbrakes gunning down Mt. Hakone.

Actually the 991 Rally GT is not currently homologated by the FIA, but only nationally homologated, so it cannot compete in international championships. The same was true for the Aston. Only the Alpine is really currently accepted by the FIA, and it is actually a really fast car, but not as fast as the Rally 2 cars.

2:10 - the front of that 308, the pop-up headlights, look like startled eyes going "what the fk are you doing to me?!" 😂

1:37 the Castrol Celica

I only know this class exists due to Dirt Rally 2

Edit: got read like a book lol

the exige rgt really made me dream when it was unveiled. it looked so cool.... and then nothing happened.....
also, i love the french rally championship.... there's a madman here called cedric delage who has been running an opel speedster for the better part of a decade.

This was a fun thing to learn about. Like yourself, i first learnt about RGT with Dirt Rally 2.0 and the learnt a little more through The Crew 2 (Exige and 124). It's pretty cool that there's a 911 out there competing today

Thanks..all this video did was make me wish DiRT Rally 3.0 was a thing with more fantasy RGT cars 😁

you got my attention with the 911 and you got all my interest with that Aston

9:04 So Hammond's Aston wasn't the first time a rally / dirt oriented Aston was made... That's interesting info to me!
