tbf I don't get what people expect them to do. if you suddenly (through magic, idk) made the tech industry obsolete or somehow the banks/markets moved on entirely into a single A.I doing everything making any human input entirely redundant, would it be a surprise those previously nice areas became ghost towns and the people working within them went from being extremely comfortable to off the rails with zero optimism and well, heading down this exact path?

you can't tear away entire industries (often just because it's cheaper to get someone elses' workforce to do the job like manufacturing etc), become a ''service economy'', and then not provide an exit ramp for people to adjust or reskill or whatever. We complain about physical stores and high streets dying, then complain people are just too lazy to find work, when even those more entry level jobs as disappearing. These people are actually villanized in our society with people acting elitist over them or like it's entirely down to the choices of people who live there. It's the same story throughout the UK and same in the US as well how places like Detroit can go the way they did.

People in good situations now are just fortunate that the rug hasn't been pulled out from under them like it has to other people. Not saying there aren't people who refuse to put in the work in these areas and that they aren't responsible for the circumstances they're in, but given enough rug pulling and poverty over decades it's not hard to see why it happens or why the next generation emulate their parents or whatever

There was a big wholesale outlet near where I lived around 30 years ago. They tossed everything you could think of. Food, batteries, good produce, meats, name it. My brother and I used to dumpster dive. Sometimes we needed to, other times we just wanted to so we could have some luxury foods. People suing these businesses ruined it for everyone tho. The donut shops around here used to give day old donuts away by the bread bag every day. But of course people tried to sue, and that ended it for everyone.

Dumpster no longer have anything worth diving for. Thanks grifters!

I take my hat off to these survivors. So much fun in them whatever life chucks. ❤ Mind you, they're lucky, supermarkets in other places lock up the bins. (Got 4 whole Stilton cheeses out of one before they did, though!) And their ability to make something out of nothing is great (like that house in the woods), other peeps seem to have lost that & gone all helpless.
Deffo need to go to Merthyr to visit these peeps, they're special.

I used to share a house with a Welsh bloke,ex army, he did hotel maintenance management in the week in London and rode back to Wales at the weekends on his motorbike.

I do feel for anyone whos struggling in this day and age and my advise would be move, if you cant get a job / house where you are then move, sacrifice of what you are used to and people you know is worth it for a better life.

It's still very tough now😮 unfortunately you can change I spent six months in hospital with bipolar 2. Now do peer support. The key is self acceptance change. Alcohol and drugs are the devil's choice. I nearly ended it but have found some peace 🕊️. Just me and my lad. Good luck. People look for happiness in others people. The company you hang will determine your life.
