🚐💡 Can you really turn a plain VW Caddy Maxi into a fully functional camper in just 2 weeks… for under £500?
Well, that’s exactly what I did – and in this video, I’ll show you the full build from start to finish. From designing the layout, building the bed, adding storage, and fitting all the essentials, this micro camper proves you don’t need a huge budget (or loads of time) to hit the road in style.
Whether you’re into stealth camping, budget builds, or just love seeing a van transform from empty shell to adventure-ready camper, this one’s for you.

Please don't just grind the rust with an angle grinder and use Hammerite for coating if You want results to last for a long time. Grind the rusty spots with an angle grinder and treat them with a rust remover afterwards before painting them. Please always use rust remover even if You sanded down the rust to the bare metal. Why? Rust particles get stuck into the grinding disc of the angle grinder during the process. No matter how often You change the disc. Even if the surface looks as if it is blank metal, You have spread very small rust particles during the process of grinding all over the surface. Those particles have been grinded into the metal whilst grinding the surface. You cannot spot them, but they are all over the place. (You can spot them using a microscope, for sure). My recommendation for rust remover is Fertan. My recommendation to paint such spots afterwards is POR15. My recommendations are simply based on my own experiences; no product placement. POR15 is expensive and might be a pain in the a** to find in some countries. Afaik here in Germany there is only one retailer who still offers this product, as POR15 has to be imported from the US and importing stuff from the US has become a pain in the a** of its own during the past few years.

Thanks for the video Matt as I’m about to convert a Renault Kangoo and this has given me ideas 👍

Awesome vid, thanks for sharing. I’ve just finished 3years full time van living, and am considering a Caddy Maxi as my next build for shorter trips. This was helpful in seeing what can fit in such a small space. Thanks!

I think I am going to use this as a model for my camper van conversion. It actually cost you 500 as well, many of these channels say it cost something small but neglect to include the cost of things like a leisure battery.
