In an interview I watched with Norton years ago, a recovering Norton (after his car accident) talked at length of how grateful he was to Ali for giving him a shot. Norton was down on his luck, broke with a child. This fight gave him back his life and security and he never forgot the kindness of Ali for doing it.
Ken Norton was a talented and fearless fighter. The man had such class and never bragged one bit. When asked if he thought he won the fight he said it was a close one and could have gone either way. Classic Norton. One of my all-time favorites along with Big George Foreman. They’re both gone now but not forgotten.
I thought Ali won this fight decisively, not by split decision. Norton had two good rounds, the seventh and eighth, and maybe one early round. But for the most part Ali was scoring consistently.
Ali was a masterful scientific fighter! People don't realize the 3 and a half years being off in truth took away his great defense which was in his legs.
the commentator at 39:50 "everyone watching will know that Mohammad Ali is no longer a great fighter, they should've been convinced a long time ago" ,"he lost the last 3.5 years of his life and is not expected to get back to boxing" HE WAS WRONG !
Masterful performance by both ali norton n Howard cosell sitting there saying that ali was not a great fighter anymore..bullshit.. norton was above average boxer..ali was the master look how he whipped the unbeatable undefeated foreman's behind in zaire a few years later..ali will always be the greatest..r.i.p..goddam you are so missed champ💔
Wasn’t easy for the referee to move around the ring to get away from both🫣😳🫣 Ali always fought smarter and moving with his gracious dance, something that other fighters don’t usually do…great boxer
