This probably lived at a print shop.

That drive cage design is really cool. Also, excellent job on those replacement rails.

I genuinely want to thank you for your efforts to preserve and restore vintage computers.  You're a good dude doing good things. Thanks for being cool enough to care about them!

Ah the good old 'oil dust' PSU...typical industrial/workshop/factory setting clue  :)
Waas a pain to clean these back in the day.

Appropriately dark case, for the dark days of IBM. All those cost saves, but a nice looking system for a collection.

I have one of the IBM Netvista models from the same Era. Still runs perfectly!

We had a large volume printer that was controlled by an IBM tower server running Solaris x86.

Those NetVistas were one of my first office computers. Reliable and rugged machines and the casing is still my favorite. You could make a decent gaming rig out of it.

Offset printing is how multi color images are applied to paper. This was probably from a small business that did flyers and custom jobs. I worked in a printshop in my early 20’s. The mystery card most likely was how they interfaced with the ultraviolet printer for making the image sheets for the printing machines. One sheet for each color. The machines we used were over 100 years old. A real cool mix of vintage and modern tech. I think you’d find the classic style of printing presses very interesting.

This IBM was made during the crapacitor period. I used the beige one of that as a repository for antivirus definitions and engine delivery to all the 150+ clients of our network. The clients have Olivetti m8500 that will also suffers for crapacitors near the cpu

The company I was working for at the turn of the 2000's from 2000 to 2005 was still using 286's and 386's to run their system on Windows 3.1.

This was used in a print shop as more of an appliance than a pc. Once it works, you keep it a long time.

It's a plate maker computer. Nice. I was a four color press operator once.

It's always a good day to wake up to Mike! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

My guess is that this machine was used to prepare and/or control output for a small offset-printing organization. With offset printing supplanting the time-honored letterpress process (actual printing "presses") everything from telephone directories to daily  city newspapers got printed by flexible plates bearing photographic images instead of by movable type. Computers came into their own when images could be digitized easily making the whole process streamlined and more compact -- as well as quieter!

I brought one of these at auction back in 2005 new, Pentium 4 3.0ghz 1gb ram and it had the agp slot with a matrox millennium installed. Also had a maxtor 80gb hd and a lg cdrw/dvd drive, came with a 17" ibm monitor keyboard and mouse and speakers. Think i paid $50 for it which was cheap at the time. It was bundled with xp pro office and a suite of Adobe products in there retail box.
It died in 2014 due to faulty capacitors, recapped it last year and it booted right up. Always liked the system it was nice and stable quick enough for what I used it for and a great print server and multimedia center, i did put a sound blaster live 5.1 card in it

when i was going to school, they had a crap ton of these machines, 1 in every classroom for the teacher for students attendace, grades etc, bunch in the library, and quite a few computer labs. windows 2000 os was on it for domain obviously

RIP: Raster Imaging Processor. If you watched Adrian's series on the AGFA machine, it's basically one of those on a card.

I love the swedish text on the label in the bottom that states "This device must be connected to a grounded outlet when connected to a network"
You see, some older houses/buildings in Sweden in the early 2000:s still used power outlets that lacked proper grounding. Still do in fact, if they were built before 1994.

Had this one in traditional beige/blue style. Very solid case, easy to open, easy to navigate and replace. Mine had 1GHz P-III and also Win XP, but saw also P4 with W2000. So it was pretty variable.
