Being able to "will a part into existence" so effortlessly captures the whole 3D printing vibe. It's part of what got me hooked years ago. I'll never forget watching my first prints being created out of thin air, layer by layer. Welcome to the club!

"Multimedia" was the catchword in the same way that people use "gaming" today. It just meant "Yay, we can do video and sound." Four megs were standard at the time, anything above that was either an upgrade, or an upsale. It's a decent period correct common computer. BTW, game port was also called midi port where a music device was also attached, and why most sound cards included them. So, having two was convenient, and it was also convenient to have a second port to go "head to head" with someone.

I remember in the early 90s my school library had a single computer with a caddy cd rom and at the entry way a book with CD ROM written on it where you would have to book your time to use it 😌

My city library used the CD caddy system which protected commonly used CD databases. This was PRE internet so you could only search large databases on CD.

It's always impressive to see the quality of certain materials in those older drives, with that 5.25 floppy having a solid cast chassis instead of stamped steel.

Awesome use of the 3D printer for this one. I've never seen a manually actuated CD carrier drive either. Glad you got it working. And I finally know what that bios based virus protection is about too after 30 years of not knowing 😅

That caddy system for discs was kinda unique. I've had PC's from the early 90's onwards and thats the first time I remember seeing one. It made sense having those for the discs you use constantly to prevent scratching, but mean't you needed spares for ones you use temporarily. I don't mis 5 1/4" discs they were crap and too easily damaged, they made good frisbees as I remembered.
