Gopro have made their long awaited comeback and for the most part the wait was worth it! These are my own thoughts, no one reviewed the video and I was not paid to make this. Included alot of comparisons vs the DJI action 6 because that is the benchmark right now!

CORRECTIONS:
There is a capture info settings you can turn on in the settings that shows EV, white balance and shutter which is great for exposing GP-LOG2

Glad GoPro upped their game to be competitive, but @ 700$USD vs 320-430$USD puts it in it's own category.

Appreciate you putting this thing through its paces! Stoked to hear you’re enjoying the camera and that our image quality, low light, dynamic range, + battery life stood out 🙌

In my opinion, in most shots you showed, the DJI Action 6 is better then the GoPro Mission 1 Pro

I’ve watched several comparisons about this, and honestly: I’m not as impressed with the GoPro as I expected to be, despite the 1-inch sensor.

Yes, you can immediately see that the GoPro image looks softer. Many people instantly call that “cinematic” or a “movie look.” But honestly, I can achieve a very similar look with the Action 6 just by softening the image a bit and adjusting the colors in my editing software. I don’t necessarily need a new camera for that.

What actually surprised me more was that the Action 6 often looked brighter in many scenes. Sure, when it comes to image noise, the GoPro clearly has advantages with the 1-inch sensor, especially in low light. You can definitely see that. But at the same time, I often had the impression that the Action 6 showed more detail. The image simply looks sharper and clearer.

And then there’s the price.

Here in Germany and Europe, the GoPro costs around 799 euros with the grip included. If you then add a stick and a second battery, you quickly end up at around 860 euros.

The Action 6, on the other hand, costs around 439 euros — including two batteries and a stick.

And that’s exactly where it becomes difficult for me: if a camera costs almost twice as much, then I also expect a really noticeable difference. Not just a slightly softer image and a little less noise. In some areas, the cheaper camera actually looks better to me.

So honestly, despite the 1-inch sensor, I’m a bit disappointed with the GoPro.

But I’m really curious about the Action 7 now. It’ll probably come out this year or maybe early next year. Let’s see what DJI does. 🙂

Still, thanks for your video — really well made. I left a subscription and a like. 👍

Exciting times. Might not be the sharpest but honestly I feel it looks way more natural and a better image imo. Looks like a big improvement to me !

I missed that cinematic look of the GoPro so much, DJI looked way too digital. Mine is arriving tomorrow. Can't wait to test it out

When I compared the Sony headphones with the Bose, the Sonys initially sounded much better—but then I realized that was mainly because the bass was heavily boosted. In the end, the clarity of the Bose was incredible, and that’s what made me choose them.
It’s a similar story with the Ace Pro 2 and DJI Action cameras: at first, they seem to look better, but in reality the sharpening, color, and saturation are simply overdone. So I went with the Mission 1.

The thing that keeps me on the Action 6 side for now is the variable aperture. Shooting in a snowy parking lot right before sunrise, being able to pull to f/4 and keep shutter speed sensible without stacking ND filters is something I use constantly. The Mission 1 Pro doesn't have that and for variable light environments it's a real workflow difference

I honestly like the Osmos brtter, from what I've seen. Except for the slow motion

@KaziQTR 4 months ago

I've been searching GoPro Mission 1 vs DJI Osmo Action 6. When I gave up and just started watching this, I see you compared it against Osmo Action 6. I think you are missing a lot of potential views by not mentioning this in the title.

Took the Action 6 cuttlefish diving in the Whitsundays last June, 15m down with no housing. Footage held up.

GoPro caught up with their competitors, but not in price. But unfortunately, they still haven’t surpassed them. Subject tracking is a great feature! The price of the DJI Osmo Action 6 starts at €360 here in Lithuania!!! Oh come on, GoPro!! :)

Looking at your supplied videos, I like DJI Action 6 image better. It is brighter, more details, clearer and no frame stutters.

7:13 You mentioned not seeing a difference between 4k and 8k, but right off the bat I see a large difference in the moire effect that can be seen in the grated walkway. I'd be curious how this looks in the original footage compared to what I'm looking at here on YouTube.

As I've now watched two different people's reviews on these cameras, I'm surprised that there has been no mention of how lens flares are handled by the Mission 1. It seems exceptionally well controlled when shooting towards a light source. However, in certain in resolutions and frame rates, there is an unpleasant roll off, or lack there of, and in some cases a bizarre looking halo around the light source. In your example photos where you shot into the sun, the highlight roll off was much more pleasing, but that may have been due to the clouds and atmosphere obscuring the sun.

Overall, it looks like the GoPro took a more relaxed approach to this camera's image capture. DJI is just too razor sharp and artificial feeling. I'll hold off on buying a Mission 1 until next year though. While I'm excited about what I've seen, I'm worried about this camera's longevity and reliability. Once I see how the camera fairs in the hands of general consumers, I'll make a decision about buying one for myself.
