"Mr. Habeck, you say you are in favor of protecting Jewish life in this country. I want to tell you, Jewish life in this country is very diverse."
These words come from the author and Jew Deborah Feldman. She is concerned about the current situation in Germany. In her opinion, Jewish life is threatened worldwide, even in Israel. But do Jews not feel safe in Germany?

Deborah Feldman particularly laments what she considers to be the weak protection of Jewish life in Germany. Police officers are seen in front of synagogues, which are rather sparsely attended. But in front of Jewish restaurants and other normal, public places – where Jewish life normally flourishes – there is no protection at all. "Jewish life takes place in this country, just as all other forms of life take place."
The government must do much more to protect it and should have addressed this years ago. Now, she says, it is especially important to give Jews a sense of security.

"But of course, it's no longer a free life if only police protection allows for free life everywhere. In this respect, the task of educating people, debating, and pushing back against anti-Semitism in all its forms – Islamist, from the right, and from the left – is the task of the hour," explains Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck (Greens). He takes Deborah Feldman's criticism very seriously and takes a critical look at the current riots on the German streets. He added that Jewish life in Israel is a matter of state policy, and above all, it's also part of this country.
