Definitely agree on the Royal Crypt. On my most recent playthrough there I got a lot of level ups. Like you mention there's a ton of Liquid Metal Slimes you can encounter in battles there and there's also a nearby healing spot for free healing. Another dungeon I really enjoyed was the Yggdrasil Tree and Zenithia Tower since you start to go above the clouds as you climb higher and higher into those places. Let's hope for Dragon Quest 12 they keep the series turn based!

I really enjoyed watching your stream of this game, and its cool seeing how inventive developers could be with dungeon design in these older games.

Aww c'mon man be nice to Taloon, he's a loveable family business man with a determined adventerous spirit even tho he's a old man.
Honestly the whole game was an enjoyable adventure breeze except for that tournament fight was a pain.
I find dragon quest dungeons even the old games have some of the best dungeon design, better than other series around the 80s n 90s. Yuji and his team were very ahead of their time with unique jrpg protagonists and fun dungeon designs.

The dungeon and job class ranking videos are always fun!
I haven't actually played through DQIV yet, though this video definitely has me looking forward to it :D

I was waiting to see the Cave to Izmit appear in last place here, due to how small and nothing the dungeon is, but it’s apparently so small and nothing it didn’t even make it on the list.

ThAT’s oFfeNsIve tO smAlL DungEOnS! :l

In all seriousness though, these have got to be most unique dungeons made for any NES game, and I don’t know if I could rank the dungeons myself at the moment. I was, however, surprised at how low the Zenithian Tower was here. I find its bizarre structure type to be quite memorable (although the dungeons that come after it are indeed better).

Loved the coverage of the dungeons, how they effect the plot of the story. Hope you're having a great day David.

In general I am on the same page as you except I love the Cave West of Kievs.  Part of why Chapter 4 is so interesting is that you don't have a traditional fighter on the team so Meena/Nara has to pull double duty and be the healer and the fighter, and it's a really interesting change up.

Part of what makes Dragon Quest IV so great is that you can never have a team that has it all - any character that gets cut from the main party has at least a few unique spells or qualities that can't be fully replaced.  The cave west of Kievs is the first dungeon that really makes you feel it (and then they give you Oojam/Orin to show just how helpful a fighter makes things).

Keep it up, always nice to find another DQ fan out there.

Fact:/Yggdrassil comes from the mythology of my paternal ancestors, the Vikings. It is a massive tree that stands as a connector for all the planes, including Midgard (or what modern folks call Earth), Asgard (home plane of the gods), Jotunheim (pronounced "Yoh-tuhn-heim," home of the Jotun, AKA Frost Giants), and others. It is one of the few things that is supposed to survive Ragnarok, though Midgard/Earth is reborn in the process and humanity will flourish again.

Random thought, But Taloon can access abilities the other party members could only dream of, Such as the ability to steal.
Too bad he's too random to be reliable.

I love your dungeon and class ranking lists of these games.

Played the NES version around release. Though I did beat that game (if memory serves, it took somewhere from a few months to a year), I can attest those lowest-ranked dungeons were THE PITS, ESPECIALLY in Chapter 4.

Just got to the last dungeon tonight and saw this video! Love hyper specific videos like this. Great work!!

I loved the nostalgia this video brought me.  I can remember sitting with my dungeon guide when playing this game, and how much fun the story was.  I actually really loved the multiple different stories that meet together for a major story.

May I suggest a video:
Ranking the Mini Medal Collectors in Dragon Quest

Look at the NPC collectors of Mini Medals  in the DQ series in terms of rewards, accessibility, nearby points of interest, and personal opinion

Ur videos make me happy

Just played this game for the first time this week, and it has skyrocketed to become one of my new favorite RPGs! I pretty much 100% agree with your list! Would move down the liquid slime sword cave way down and would put the bonus dungeon right there, but otherwise, you took it right out of my head! Also, as much as I hate the Zenithian Tower, it was an amazing grinding spot on the third floor! Spent hours there leveling up Psaro haha

I haven't played this game in a long time since I got it for the NDS.

Wow hey nice video David! Thanks for doing one of my favorite Dragon Quest games! Number 3! Maybe I should replay it soon...

Might as well rank the dungeons of Final Fantasy 1-3.  Due to outdated mechanics they're all a pain, just some less than others.

This port is my favorite port and favorite DQ. All the the other DQ’s I could not finish and got bored. The chapters made the game fresh.
