Powerful builds are fun to perform

There's a part of me that wishes that Muse sounded organic and like a band, like they did on their first two to three albums. Origin Of Symmetry is a bit over the top at times, almost ridiculous, some say it's pretentious, but it's so, SO good! Musicians as good as they have the right to be pretentious, if that's a problem at all... Matt Bellamy has an great sense of harmony, and melody. He's a great songwriter. However... Their fifth album, The Resistance, started something that I feel they're still doing. It wasn't a bad album, it was just not as good as their previous work. And since then, they have continued with the same theme, political theme, like the people against an empire, or The Empire. Muse Against The Machine haha! My main problem is that they use synth and digital drums to such a large extent, the band sounds cold and mechanical. To me, they lack that raw energy that they had on their first two albums. But maybe that was the youthful energy that they had, and now that they're older, more mature, and have been doing this for such a long time, they have just developed, and it's a development that some don't like (and that's okay).

I'm not one of those people who wants and expects a band to sound the way I want them to sound, just repeat what they've already done, that every Muse album should be a new version of Origin Of Symmetry, or that every album by The Smashing Pumpkins should have sounded like another version of Siamese Dream, etc. Bands and artists evolve, for better or worse. My problem is that I just can't connect to this synthy Muse, I want and need the guitars. Ultimately, there are other guitar based bands that I can listen to instead. But I can still appreciate Muse's songwriting production and performance, even though it doesn't speak to me. I can still have respect for what they do. And this is a pretty good song.

Great breakdown, again. Thanks!

Everyone seems to note the part before the final chorus is lacking a bit. Solo could have built a bit more or maybe repeat that guitar harmony to build it. Also the double “thrones” before the outro riffing just aound a bit too copy-paste for my liking. In live versions he throws in a falsetto note/scream to replace it which works much better.

Love the in depth inspection, but was sad you somehow skipped the coolest bass part in the song 11:50 before the 2nd chorus

Even so, this was a fantastic review of the songwriting aspect. Much appreciated!

Citizen Erased please. Loved the reaction. Cheers.

“Map of the Problematique”  or  “Butterflies and Hurricanes”  pretty please.   💐
Love the analysis; it makes my appreciation of  MUSE  even stronger. ❤️

Wow you're very entertaining and informative, as a drummer it's like you're speaking french to me; I don't understand but I love the theory and want to grasp it 😂

I know you must have picked up on the bass, and the tri harmonies at the end of chorus 2 and 3! Wish you had gone in depth a touch on those but you went so in depth on the key and scales and melody and structure it was great - definitely a sum from me and hope you do more Muse deep dives
