Before the Golden Age, Elizabeth was a passionate and naïve girl who came to reign over a land divided by bloody turmoil. According to legend, she ( Elizabeth) was reading under an oak tree when a messenger arrived saying that she was now Queen

I do believe that the death of Queen Mary and the accession of Queen Elizabeth was the one and only time in English/British history that a queen succeeded a queen.

Anne Boelyn was smiling at this moment

Anne Boleyn’s greatest revenge. 😈
Her daughter became the most powerful Queen of England (of all time). I accept no other arguments!

Cate Blanchett really got robbed of her Oscar that year.

I like how her voice changed for the accession scene under the tree. As Princess her voice was lighthearted and more carefree. Once the ring was put in her hand and officially Queen, her voice was more powerful. It was subtle but you can tell the difference. It definitely signified that her previous life as Princess was officially over. Brilliantly done by Cate Blanchett.

It must have been a bittersweet moment for Elizabeth. Everyone in her family had to die for her to sit on that throne. But it was also the end of a lifetimes worth of fear and loss that Elizabeth experienced as a child. I can't imagine what she would have been thinking as she went through her coronation.

What a horrible, uncertain, stressful time she had up to this point. Constantly in fear of her position, her legitimacy, her very life. Only her intelligence and a few chances kept her alive. I can’t imagine how that would shape a character. Damaged soul indeed.
Fun fact: she wore her sister’s coronation robes that had been hastily altered to her slimmer figure. It’s said when she left the church she was almost laughing in triumph.

"This is the Lord's doing. And it is marvelous in our eyes." A historically real statement made by Elizabeth. I wonder if her tone was the same as here. Awestruck yet wary of what may come.

i'll never understand how this movie didn't sweep the academy awards that year.

Bought a book "Great Speeches". Her last speech to Parliament is there, She talked about how much she loved England and all her subjects, and if she had made any mistakes please forgive her, tell her, and she would repair it. The Golden Speech.

The settings, the camera movements, the shot cuts, the color palette. This is an impressive movie. Blanchett has brilliant expressions, what a great actress. The director takes many shots of Elizabeth from a higher angle, curious and brilliant.

Cate Blanchett was born to play Elizabeth. One of the best depictions of her for the time.

Elizabeth is my favourite Queen out of all them.

This is a visually stunning film with immaculate costuming.

People, the movie is literally called “Elizabeth”. It came out in the late 1990s, the same year as Shakespeare In Love—and several years before Cate Blanchett appeared in LotR.

at 7:08 she looks exactly as in the coronation portrait even the jewelry and crown, she was near my age when crowned, i cant imagine the pressure poor chick...

I do love this movie… There’s an earlier scene where she goes to the Queen to speak to her which is very touching… She knows how sick she is and tries to comfort her… the gesture probably saved Elizabeth’s life …

Henry divorced and executed his second wife Anne, in order to obtain a male heir who would lead England into its Golden Age, while the future monarch who would make it all possible grew up right under Henry's nose, unseen... Just a little a girl in a man's world.
