The water holds the whole sky. 🌾
Terraced rice fields high on a hillside in Japan, early on an autumn morning.
The harvest is over. The terraces are flooded and perfectly still, and each one is holding a piece of the sky —
pale blue, white cloud, the first light. Below, a sea of mist fills the valley. Above, the mountains go blue in layers.
A wandering ronin sits on the grassy ridge between two terraces, hat and sword laid in the dry grass, eyes closed.
This piece is inspired by "TENSUI" (天水) — water from the sky, rain caught and held.
These terraces were cut into the slope by hand, one wall at a time, over centuries.
Nobody alive shaped all of it. Everyone who worked on it did one small part and handed it on,
and this morning it's just water, lying flat, holding the sky, with nothing left to plant.
Shakuhachi rises the way mist does off still water — slow, thin, unhurried.
Koto lands the way light does on a flooded field: bright, scattered, asking nothing.
Nothing here builds toward anything, because the work here is finished for the year.
This music is suitable for
😴 Falling asleep and staying asleep

🍵 Sitting above something you've finished
