You can integrate different ingredients into 'saksak' such as coconut milk, sweet banana (kalapua banana) or you can cook it in bamboo pipes with turtle meat, lamb/chicken with shallots, ginger, chilli, garlic. It can be cooked using different methods, it's quite versatile.

I was born in PNG, but left when I was 3.  It would be great to revisit it.

Call it wadeva,Nangu,praim saksak(Fried saksak/Sago),H/Lands mumu,aigir....etc,etc....from 22 provinces.  I AM A PROUD PAPUA NEW GUINEA,I LOVE ALL D DISHEs.....❤🇵🇬

Sago (saksak) cooked like that is called Nangu. True it may not not have a lot of nutritional value as far as vitamins, minerals, protein, etc. but it serves as a local staple and a great source of carbs especially for the locals who do a lot of physical work in the villages. A normal meal would consist of nangu (saksak), fish/chicken (protein) and leafy greens (vitamins/minerals) and coconut cream (good fatty acids). So it's a pretty balanced meal. Nangu also helps with indigestion and improves bowel activity because of its ability to absorb water. If you want to detox, saksak is your friend. :-)

I’ve been in the 🇺🇸 for 6 months now and I miss my home-country’s food.  😣😭 It’s nice to see expatriates trying local food. 👏🏽

I lived in Papua New Guinea for almost 2 years.  In the village our main staples were pumpkin, pumpkin greens, sweet potatoes or rice made with coconut milk, meat of coconut to snack on, raw peanuts, a small kind of orange, bananas, mango, chicken and for very special occasions pork.  The main drink was hot sweet tea.  I never saw anyone with nail polish. Few folks owned shoes and if they did, they were flip flops.  One could buy "tinned meat" (canned tuna) in the city.

And my German girlfriend eats saksak hahaha. I got her to try it first while making her schnitzels. Instead of using pure flour to bread the veal, I mixed saksak with flour. That way she had her first schnitzel coated in saksak. I got to mix both of our cultures in our cuisine. 🇵🇬🇩🇪

My friend every nation have their own cultures and ways of life so you should be respectful of other people life style and cultures

Trust me you should try saksak cooked the Manus way. It will change your conception of saksak.

I would recommend a nice "mumu" from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea .🇵🇬❤

For those who do not know, "saksak" is Sago in English...

Try the Highlands Mumu on your next trip here 🇵🇬

That's My Home Town..!! Saksak is one of the staple food in the Province.!!

Liked and subscribed: we really like to try local food. The Sack Sack will be on our list to try. We are planning a trip to PNG next year. Great video.

I am a little offended by the adjectives used but I appreciate that foreigners are trying out food from where I am from. I recommand you try other traditional food from PNG like Pariva from the Central Province, Muna from Milne Bay Province, Aigir from East New Britain and many more. You'll fall in love with the food and culture.

Such a beautiful documentary 😊😮❤❤🎉
Damm love ❤️ it😊

In Indonesia it's called "papeda" and usually eaten with yellow seasoned fish.
