Imagine waking on another world to a day that runs forty minutes too long, with five other people and nowhere else to go. Outside, sound fades within a few metres and the sunsets turn blue. Before dawn, one bright star keeps sinking toward the Sun. What would your first year living on Mars actually be like?
Tonight we live it sol by sol, through the long, quiet middle of the year, the two weeks when home falls silent, and the season when the dust rises.
Get comfortable and let this long year on Mars keep you company tonight. Subscribe to Sleep in Orbit if you like falling asleep somewhere far from Earth.

If Elon builds habitats on Mars it will be large and spaceous, comfortable with many plants and trees. Eventually there would be forests and parks throughout and maybe even animals in their own dome. You'd be far less likely to miss Earth at all.
