Pottery Barn wanted $14,000 for their modular outdoor sectional... so I built my own custom version for just $650!
In this video, I break down how to design, cut, assemble, and finish a high-end, weather-resistant modular patio sofa on a budget. Whether you want a full L-shape layout or separate outdoor seating pieces, this step-by-step DIY tutorial shows you how to get luxury outdoor furniture without paying retail markup.

CUT LIST for 26x26" outdoor cushions:
ALL WOOD PLANED TO: 1 1/8"
2.5" Width: short legs, long legs, back rest sides
5" Width: All base cuts, arm cuts and horizontal slats for the back rest
ARMLESS CHAIR:
Short Legs: 13 1/14"
Long Legs: 23" x2
Base Front: 21"
Base Sides: 28 1/4"
Base Back: 23 3/4" screwed into the sides at 26" (measuring from the base front)
ARM CHAIR (LEFT ARM)
Short Leg: 13 1/14"
Long Leg: 23"
Base Front: 23 1/2"
Base Left: 26"
Base Right: 28 1/4"
Base back: 23 3/4"
Arm Top: 30 1/2"
Arm Front and Back: 21 7/8" x2
Arm Supports: 28 1/4" x 2
ARMLESS AND ARM CHAIR BACK REST
Sides: 18" long, 2.5" wide, 12° back bevel at the bottom only x2
Horizontal Pieces: 21" x 2
CORNER CHAIR (LEFT SIDE)
Short Leg: 13 1/14"
Long Legs: 23" x2
Corner leg: 23" long, one at 5" wide and the other at 3 7/8" wide
Base Front (goes to back left leg): 26 7/8"
Base Back (goes to corner leg): 28 1/4"
Base Right (goes to back right leg): 28 1/4"
Base Left: 23 3/4"
CORNER BACK REST (LEFT SIDE) (You may have to make your own template but this is what worked for me)
Inside Corner Set:
#1. First piece on LEFT is 2.5" wide with a 12° back bevel on the bottom with a 10.4° mitre. The edge that butts up against the second piece needs a 3° back bevel rip on the table saw. Cut the top, inside of the corner to 18 9/16" at a 0° (so no back bevel)
#2. Second piece on the RIGHT is 3 5/8" wide with a 12° back bevel on the bottom with a 12.7° mitre going the other way. #1 and #2 should form a V at the bottom when butt up to each other. This also needs a 3° back bevel ripped on the table saw (the 1 1/8" side on the inside of the corner). Cut to heigh compared to #1. #2 requires an extra little nub cut at the top where #1 & #2 meet.
Outside vertical edges: 18" long, 2.5" wide, 12° back bevel at the bottom only x2
Left top Horizontal: 5" Width, Top 24 5/8", Bottom 23 5/8"
Left bottom Horizontal: 5" Width, Top 22 1/2", Bottom 21 1/2"
Right top Horizontal: 5" Width, Top 25 1/16", Bottom 23 15/16"
Right bottom Horizontal: 5" Width, Top 22 5/8", Bottom 21 1/2"
Visual Timestamp 18:38 (but the drawings are for the RIGHT corner chair)
Good luck! Double check measurements and make sure it works for you before you cut!
