Who's here today. RIP Cliff

This song is about the cycle of grief.

Stage 1. Harmony.
Stage 2. Anger.
Stage 3. Denial.
Stage 4. Barganing.
Stage 5. Depression.
Stage 6. Acceptance.
Stage 6. The upward turn.
Stage 7. Return to harmony.

Each stage is represented by the guitar riffs. It's such a beautiful song.

Cliff you will always be remembered as a man who helped Metallica and made them a better band RIP  Cliff Burton

By far, the saddest metallica song ever. The music speaks louder than any lyric they've ever written: slow, dark, heavy, emotional, classical... and just as cliff's life, it ends abruptly.

"You don't burn out from going too fast. You burn out from going too slow and getting bored." -Cliff Burton

Everybody should be aware that this was probably one of the last songs that Cliff had a real influence in writing before he passed away from us

Rest In Peace Cliff Burton🤘🥀

This song saved my life in the lowest and darkest point of my life. I am eternally grateful for this song and band. I stumbled upon it and was hooked instantly. That clean interlude section just puts my soul back together. I don't have the words to describe how much I love this song.

The most impressive and beautiful song ever written by Metallica.
To Live Is to Die is a masterpiece perfectly crafted to make your emotions come out and shine so damn bright.
Not a single word and makes you feel so much sadness, going deep in your heart and soul to just genuinely cry.
I personally think this is the deepest and most meaningful Metallica song ever made, not even close with anything else.

My favorite Metallica song ever and always has been.
Rest In Peace Cliff Burton, you will forever be missed.

This song tells a story without saying a word.   The high, the low, the apathy, the rise again, and the live on without forgetting.   So fucking epic!  🤘🤘🤘

Probably the most underrated metallica song there is

Listening in 2026? ❄️👌

Best Metallica album ever written. Top three in the universe

For me, this represents Cliff's life. The peaceful acoustic in the beginning is their rise. When the heavy riffs come in, its like their ultimate point of power, when they made it and they're triumphing. That lasts until it gets to the melodic section where it's coming up to an end... then the all stop and there's just a singular guitar that represents the moment Cliff gets taken. Then it comes back, signaling their return and they are moving on in the grief and sadness.

This song is probably Metallica’s best, sadness, melancholy but also fury and dark heavy guitars riff that never made it together before, loved it since I was 13 now I’m 48 and still love it

I love how the song starts by fading in with a melody and fades out with that same melody representing what was before you were born and what will be after you die; everything in between that in the song represents life.

I love Metallica so much and they’re my favorite band and I always will.

40 years gone I'm still missed by people who are even too young to hear him play live. RIP

At age 14 my friends told me they didn't want to hang out with me anymore. Two years and no friends later I moved two provinces away from everyone I knew to go to Residential School to start a new life. I had a portable cd player and a few cds. ...and justice for all, was one of my cds. When I listened to this song, it always took me away to a better place where my soul and spirit could rejoice. I feel so at ease when I hear this song. Others around me thought I was an emotionless zombie, but I just had been a broken down human being that held everything inside, where nobody could hurt me anymore, but this song gave me an insight into the depths of depression and calmness and understanding that I am not alone. I am loved. There are others out there who are pure energy that gravitate goodness in this world filled with hate.

That 4:58 mark just hits differently...I'm learning this entire song on guitar...
