In December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, German armored forces pushed through Rocherath and Krinkelt toward Elsenborn Ridge and the vital road network leading west. This documentary follows how the battered U.S. 2nd and 99th Infantry Divisions withdrew to stronger ground while forward observers, fire direction centers, engineers, infantry, and massed American artillery built a coordinated defense under extreme pressure. As German Panthers, Panzer IVs, and panzergrenadiers searched for a breakthrough near Wirtzfeld and Elsenborn Ridge, U.S. artillery repeatedly shifted its fire onto advancing formations and helped deny the Sixth Panzer Army the northern routes it needed to maintain its offensive momentum.
