I’ve watched The Twilight Zone (1959) for years, but these 20 secrets hidden for decades honestly blew my mind. It’s wild how many subtle details and hidden meanings were right there the whole time without most of us noticing. This show was seriously ahead of its time—now I feel like I need to rewatch every episode again.

Without The Twilight Zone, you’d never have The Black Mirror. I still love watching The Twilight Zone episodes. The beginning music always gives me the same goosebumps every time I hear it.

So brilliant, so prescient, and so badly missed.

Out of 156 total episodes, here are the leading writers in descending order of episode count:

Rod Serling (92+ episodes): Serling wrote or co-wrote 92 episodes.

Charles Beaumont (22 episodes): A major contributor known for dark, twist-driven stories.

Richard Matheson (16 episodes): Prolific suspense author who wrote many classic episodes

Earl Hamner Jr. (8 episodes): Contributed to the later seasons (pre-The Waltons).

George Clayton Johnson (5 episodes): Known for classic stories like "Nothing in the Dark" and "Kick the Can".

Rod Serling is one of my most favorite people ever. He taught me to observe and and look for underlying themes. That life has a lot of secrets yet to be understood by many because they're so involved with their private details that they fail to see the bigger pictures.  To be honest, it's often unavoidable. But this guy showed us that there are realities beyond our perception (even if they're not so extraordinary) that can be mind blowing. But sadly, he was also a prophet of how we can see and hear these messages and it hardly make a difference. God bless him.

The script with Burgess Meredith as a book worm made me cry. It’s true…. It’s not fair 😢

I could be wrong but people tend to forget that during the early days of television, all the networks used to aired a lot of these teleplays.  They looked like to the viewer is watching a stage play (minus the audience).  This explains the popularity of these anthology shows like this one, Playhouse 90, United States Steel Hour, The Alcoa Hour, etc.  In addition, the William Bendix scenes are from an earlier Rod Serling pilot called "Time Element".

What about Rod Serling' s Night Gallery?  He did get to do more...great shows as well, although not the same as The Twilight Zone.  Still very good...

TZ is the GOAT of every tv series. When I was a child that intro scared the crap out of me. Do do do do do do do do. Then they show thar glass break then they show that eyeball A few minutes later they show my man Rod with  those big bushy eye brows. We miss you mr sterling.

I was a 10 year old kid in 1963 . The week in November when JFK was killed in Dallas was devastating enough . I was upset about that event and even more that the media coverage of that catastrophy postponed all regularly aired programes  ,one of them Friday nights Twilight Zone broadcast. The episode was The Seventh is Made Up of Phantoms, a national guard tank crew was transported back in time to the battle of the Little Big Horn, Custer's last  stand at the end of the show ,their names appeared on the monument honoring the men who were killed in the battle.

Most episodes of TTZ were brilliant. Even those not, were at least well written. Today’s writers could learn a LOT from these about how the job is done.

Lots of big names… or soon to become BIG names were in the TLZ well done, simple writing, good show.

I binge watched these. The Christmas episode was so touching that I was left emotional. My major was psychology, and this fits into a lot of lessons. I thought the social commentary to be obvious. It seems like an 8 year old could give you a DUH strong enough to leave a mark if you asked for the message.
The Eye of the Beholder feels very relavent. I already know that I'm not very attractive, but for some reason society seems to think this is new information.  There are a lot of plots where evil people are ugly and/ or undeserving of love. (You tell someone they're unlovable and wonder why they're evil, seriously?) This flipped it over. Having them exiled is also on the nose.
The episode of William Shatner on the plane is how I felt when I left Twitter. I gave my friends my other accounts. They pretty much said it was an over reaction. Noone wanted to stay in touch. Toxicity returned running victory laps. I don't hear anything positive about it. Well you burn, and I'll just yell "I told you so" while mooning you. I'm not above being petty if you were mocking me.
I think everyone over 40 can sympathize with Burgess Meredith having his glasses break. Kids start moving out giving you financial wiggle room. You have being an adult more or less figured out. It should be time to start doing the things that adulting had us shove aside. Nope. Your knees and back betray you. If you're up all night, it's not from partying. Worst of all, the doctor wants to get familiar with you. But now you have the time and some money. It's not fair. All of the greats now appear in "Remember When" lists. You feel like yesterday you were taking Flintstones chewables, and now you're taking supplements for joint health. Is there a merry-go-round that could take me back to childhood?

Guy burned himself out.  Too bad. But he paved the way for others.

"It's not fair." "It's a cookbook." " ...you're next stop, The Twilight Zone." Three quotes that I recognize instantly.

The Twilight zone was way before it's time! Some of the episodes are actually kinda happening now! Rod Serling was a Syfy genius!!! Still one of my favorite shows of all time!

❤I loved TZ as a child and would tease my parents to let me watch it in the early 60’s. I was drawn to the depth, suspense and moral clarity that each episode brought. Today I’m still spellbound and appreciate the fine acting by superb actors. It’s taken me a lifetime to actually realize this is only tv, written scripts and creative “genius”  Never knew how much time, effort and energy was behind it…😅🤓

✨Season 4 is the only season of the original The Twilight Zone (1959–1964) that featured a one-hour format.  Due to network scheduling changes for the 1962–1963 season, 18 episodes were expanded to approximately 51 minutes, whereas seasons 1–3 and 5 ran in a half-hour format (roughly 25 minutes).

Season 4 Exclusively: All episodes in the fourth season were lengthened to one hour.
Reasoning: The shift was made when the show was brought back as a mid-season replacement in 1962, taking over an hour-long time slot.

Return to Format: Due to mixed reception and the difficulty of writing for the longer format, the series returned to the 30-minute format for its fifth and final season.

Some popular, or often discussed, hour-long episodes from Season 4 included "In His Image," "Miniature," and "On Thursday We Leave for Home".

One of the joys of watching these again is recognizing actors before they became famous: William Shatner, Robert Redford, Donna Douglas, Billy Mumy (I hated that episode!), George Takai, Carol Burnett, etc.

YOU INCLUDED A CLIP FROM "MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY" WITH DANNY THOMAS.  I CAUGHT IT, LOL
