Whenever people mention kpop idols rigorous training schedules I wonder is the training actually that intense or is it just the fact that they are training while starving themselves that makes it so hard?

K-pop draws a hard line between an "acceptable" body and an unacceptable one, but the gap between those two is razor-thin. Trainees are already attractive people, so the pressure to hit that narrow ideal ends up punishing bodies that are perfectly fine — just not the approved shape

Starving children should never be allowed. Have a diet plan for each one by a licensed dietician. You see idols in their 30's and 40's STILL starving themselves to hit a weight that isn't healthy. It's a lifelong unhealthy relationship with food. Imagine not being able to enjoy food as much as you should because the calorie count is always in the back of your mind.

Thank you for drawing attention to this. I want them to succeed but I mainly want them to be well. This aesthetic of starving idols must stop.

In my college years I was 1.73m and 43kg.
I would never want to go back there because at that weight you barely have the energy to do anything.
I can't imagine how it is to have so many press events, trainings and concerts.

Kpop or not, the entire global entertainment industry imposes unrealistic beauty standards on women (and men). Be thin but have curves. Have curves but only in the right places and in the perfect proportions. Have muscles but not too much (or have a lot of muscle for men). All this but achieved it and make it look like you eat 'normal' amounts of food. Also, don't forget to never age.

all the medical issues that come with being severely underweight. Its all well known and documented.  The article read at the end makes it clear. But beyond that. Being "bone skinny" doesn't even look good. They honestly look unwell.

This is much deeper than a K-Pop culture issue imo, it's a Korean culture issue.

Most if not all trainees are minors, even if they agree to this type of treatment at that time it’s the guardians and adults around them that should be taking their health seriously. Kids will do anything even if it’s detrimental to themselves in the long run without understanding the true consequences. It will scare them both physically and mentally for the rest of their lives, like that idol said looking back it was the worst time of her life, I believe if she had the knowledge she has now, as a kid she probably wouldn’t have made the same certain decisions or at the very least understood that they were pushing her to hard into dangerous territory.

except athletes’ diets actually help them be better at their jobs, while kpop diets make it harder to sing and dance well and energetically. also hollywood doesn’t have managers putting cameras in stars’ rooms or taking off the doors in their rooms to make sure the star doesn’t eat. that’s something that would happen in the 1950s not nowadays. korea is still behind when it comes to acknowledging eating disorders as a real problem and a public health crisis
