16:24 Mushroom regrowth has been a thing for a while now.

free bonus tip!!! if boss is chasing you and don't stop, lead it to forest, if it will destroy trees, forest will get angry and send some tree guards to kill the boss

There's a one unwritten rule that I've seen a lot of public server dwellers stand by is "you don't ask where base is". It was much more prevalent in early days when willow was still a walking fire hazard and people would just waltz in and set the base on fire. And if somebody asks "where's base" you would just not answer to that question. That fixes two problems at the same time: griefers don't have an easy time finding the base, and it filters out newbies that don't have the most basic knowledge of survival. Finding the base is your way of proving you're good to stay, asking "where base is" is raising a flag to pay attention around you. So if you don't get an answer to the question like this it's not people being rude or unfriendly, they're being careful and you're probably already on their watch list.

Base Wilsons still mystify me because it's so easy to be productive in this game, you can literally just chop down trees for the entire server's lifetime and people will love you for it.

Bonus Tip: If somehow by some miracle your team survives the first day of winter, GET ICE, it’s an amazing filler and can never rot if placed in an ice box.

Rule 12  was "remember to writedown the rules"

Im guessing a lot of 'base wilsons' are new players who for some reason joined a public server as their first experience, and are just confused and overwhelmed

In regards to the "please drop your items before leaving" etiquette, I really wished that if a player got kicked, they'd also have their entire inventory forcibly dropped (maybe could also apply it if they quit before the votekick properly finishes too). Very annoying with griefers that had hoarded as much loot as they can from the base.

Don't steal food out of Crock-Pots yes! Especially from the Warly player. They are more then likely be willing to heal, feed, and give a therapy session IF you ask first... The asking is important.

THATS A LOT OF RULES...

TOO BAD I AIN'T READIN EM.

I think "learn the game solo before joining a pub" is a universal rule in any game where it's possible. Very few games make playing with noobs fun, even if you're a patient player.

About rule #16: Chat exists, Use it!, the only thing i have heard from new players is "i need food", "i need twigs", "i'm insane, heeelp", "i'm new" and etc., almost none of them ask things like "how to make or get food?", "where to get twigs", "how to make armor", "how to fight" and etc. if you want help you need to be specific about what you need and actually look like you wanna learn something not to just stick to others and survive until winter.

12:57 did he just yoink the hound too??? good god

Idea: dude died? Nick all the things!!... then respectfully put them in a chest nearby to ensure no moleworm steals the gears or something else eating the big meat

Last time i was this early Wilson not having any downsides was an upside

as a wendy main, i eat webber's spiders for breakfast

Hey newish player here (Like I have survived a full year, once, but nowhere near memorizing the wiki kinda player) and maybe this falls under number 19, and maybe I'm completely out to lunch here but just I think it's worth mentioning that there's a fine line between being helpful and being bossy. And just to make myself super clear here: I LOVE players that just love the game and want to share all the stuff they've learned about it and make sure you well, don't starve together. In fact, that's one of my favourite parts of this game is the sheer amount of friendly, non-toxic players out there. But I've run into a fair few players who get genuinely upset if you don't play optimally, and it can go from well-meaning advice to constant criticism (hehehehe see what I did there) which is not terribly fun to play with. Don't get me wrong though- if I'm doing something that's gonna get us both killed, or ruin your fun, then please do tell me!

One more thing that I haven't seen in the comments yet: please don't summon the eye of terror, bee queen, dfly etc. close to base (public server) or without asking (random player's worlds). Especially if you're going to die, rage quit, then leave everyone else to deal with a pissed off optional challenge type boss with nothing but log suits and a prayer. (totally not still a little salty about that...)

dishes in the fridge - eat
dishes in the crock pot - ask

Addon to number eleven: Instead of horticulture, use the light book instead. It’ll let the plants grow at night, increasing their speed up to 50% depending on the night length with winter having the longest.

Unwritten rule 20. Never let a repairable item break if you can help it. This applies to Wicker's books, the eye mask, Bernie (just don't leave him on the ground after he breaks or he decomposes), and perhaps most importantly, the eyebrella or a magiluminesence, since you have to wait till next winter to get another eyebrella and yellow gems are very annoying to get more than a handful of are are generally better used for starcallers if everyone already has a magi
