Revisiting Predator’s Broken Evolution

Movie Overload

123,007 views

In this video, we're going on a full franchise marathon to dissect one of Hollywood's most bizarre and frustrating series: Predator. We're diving deep into every single hunt, from the perfect action-horror masterpiece of 1987 to the soulless, CGI-riddled messes of the modern era, including the shockingly good Prey. We'll break down what made the original a legend, why its sequels consistently failed to read the blueprint, and how the franchise devolved from a sweaty, suspense-fueled masterpiece into a cinematic punchline. This is the story of how Hollywood spent 35 years trying, and mostly failing, to understand its most iconic hunter.

Pred 2 was cool. "It's all right, I'm a cop". "I don't think he gives a shit!".

I'm 52 and I still remember how amazing the camouflage effects seemed. As far as the Predator itself, it's kinda funny that after all these years and advances in CG and technology, a lot of people are just now discovering that,yeah,practical effects just come off so much better!

Predator 2 is a ”got damn masterpiece”! You feel the chaos in LA, you feel the comradary between Harrigan and ”Danny boy”, the pacing is great! It’s brutal, it’s scary and it also sometimes is funny. If I would say anything it could have been 15 mins longer to exploit Harrigan’s team a bit more.

I really loved the twist in Predators of including Eric Forman in the group on the planet, you keep wondering if the Yautja grabbed the wrong guy by mistake until very late in the movie when he shows his true colors. On the face of it it doesn't make much sense that he would kill one of the last remaining true soldiers, since he is no match for a Predator but he sells his serial killer vibe and you really see he's not exactly all there mentally, his serial killer impulses overriding common sense.

Gonna have to pause your video and come back to it once I've seen Predator: Killer of Killers.

This video actually made me go back and rewatch Predators, way better than I remember but yeah you can see the parts that were missing that would have made it a 10/10

At the end of the predator from 2018, I thought my eyes were going to literally drop out onto the floor because I rolled them so hard in the back of my head during the ending scene with the predator Buster armor. As soon as the main character stood up and said that corny line, “ that’s my new suit”, or whatever he said, I about puked.

Unlike other franchises, atleast this one try’s to always make up for its past mistakes

No one said Predators didnt take in consideration Predator 2.
Quite the contrary. In Predators they talk about a war between sub species. One is the sort of predators from p2 and the other from p3.

Awesome recap of the franchise! So now I need to watch prey and killer of killers. Having seen badlands recently and being pleasantly surprised reignited my interest in one of my favorite aliens from my teens.

For what I understand, Shane Black didn’t mess with the script, he actually thought it was fine as it was and the studio killed him first because of that

A fan of both franchises, I couldn't agree more.

Predator 2 is underrated.

You didn’t mention the secret serial killer played by Topher Grace in Predators. I thought that was an interesting twist that planted a seed that never really grew. Something about us being truly dangerous animals, worthy of the hunt….

@shro_okee 10 months ago

thank you for the revisiting of the brilliant predator 1987 and the sweet nightmare that is the predator combined into one video

@werecam56 10 months ago

I can't say I agree with all of your takes but truly appreciate you making this video as it was one I requested all the way back on the Alien video! Predators is underrated imo I like it more than Prey which I enjoy but think is overrated. Might be my 2nd or 3rd favorite Predator. Killer of Killers is actually my second favorite behind the original I just love the over the top carnage and samurai section in particular.

12:28 The Predators with their code of honour & warrior culture remind me of a sort of mash-up between the Sontarans and Draconians from Pertwee-era Doctor Who.
