Why did humans domesticate goats, sheep, and cattle — but never successfully domesticate antelope?

Goats and antelope are surprisingly similar. They belong to the same larger animal family, eat similar foods, and have lived alongside humans for thousands of years. Yet one became a global farm animal, while the other remained wild.

In this video, we explore the strange history behind that divide — from ancient gazelle hunters and the first goat herders to Egyptian attempts to keep antelope and modern efforts to raise elands.

The answer isn't simply that antelope are “too wild.” Their flight distance, extreme stress response, social behavior, breeding requirements, and evolutionary history with human hunters created barriers that goats happened to avoid.

So why did the goat stay while the antelope ran?

And how did this tiny difference in animal behavior help shape human civilization?

Watch until the end to discover why the animals humans domesticated may have been less about our choices — and more about which animals were biologically capable of living with us.
