Dog hardware running on cat software

Foxes only needed 65 years to domesticate.

I had a fox for many years. He was like a super nervous cross between a cat and dog. He trusted no one except me and was always wary of changes in his territory. He would not even come outside if I had hung washing on the clothes line. But he was friendly to my cats and very affectionate.

Fox's have search and rescue skill set that dogs don't.

As I remember they can identify bodies under snow in avalanches.

Those critters pee and poop over everything.
Keep them outside.

My brain needed a break. My mama passed away. Funeral was today. My heart hearts. It's been a long journey. ❤

They are Cats dressed up for Halloween...

This is a metaphor for dating on the 21st century. The subtle poetry is shattering if you really think about it.

The very first time I saw a fox, he was heading towards me while I was in my car. He gave me a look that said "fuck off, I'm here!"  So I ran the bastard over (not strictly true, I just moved over for him!)

Exactly.  We didn't domesticate wolves, we domesticated packs of wolves.  A tamed fox has nowhere to go with its unique experiences.

One reason is ancient times people weren't sanitary, nobody had bathrooms, so a fox peeing on your floor just another waste product, but today that's unacceptable.  Dogs and cats are easy to train to relieve in appropriate places, foxes are not.

I really don't know why would I want fox.

Wow! The insight in that last bit.. why I want a fox.. was astonishing! Completely true! I have 3 Shiba Inu, which are independent individualists with dazzling shrewd intelligence and enough cat traits to call them "cat software running on a dog platform". Half the people who meet my red pinto Kahuna say "if he had black forelegs I'd think he was a fox".

And.. despite conforming to the type descriptor "standoffish, independent, uncomfortable with touch, not a cuddly dog", mine are, in their own way, totally affectionate! Nami's love language is play - fetch, catch, tug - she will put a toy in my hand to ask me to throw it. Kahuna has appointed himself "Guardian of The Man's Stuff" - my wife had to call me once to move my shoes, because Kahuna was guarding them where I'd left them, and he wasn't letting her pass. Mystic is still a baby.. just turned 1.. and she's the least "people focused" because she's always had Nami and Kahuna to relate to.. but she's the one who follows me.. who sits on the landing when I go in the basement, who is almost never out of sight.

And you're right.. their affection, their way.. is so automatic, so expected, so standard that it's part of the breed's behavior description. I won't say it "means less".. I'm honored to be their Man, but I am aware of what they don't know they lost, and I strive to deserve the love and trust they give me.

On the other side of the coin.. my wife's mother was in an assisted living home, where she started feeding the feral strays. One had come into the apartment and stayed, and eventually would let the 90 y/o woman pet it. Nobody else could get near that cat.

Then, Mom died. The home said "come get this wild cat.. bring protection". We did. Caught it in a blanket, wearing welding gloves, transferred it to a carrier, brought it home, released it in the house. Didn't see it again for a year. Didn't try to find it.. the food and water we left out got eaten, the litterbox got filled, we cleaned it, and let her be. Eventually, she made an appearance, and when she did, I'd freeze, slow-blink at her, and turn away. By the end of the second year, she'd started approaching me from the back of the couch, and soon after that she was curling up on my lap letting me pet her. This transition was the most significant relationship I've had with an animal, because her acceptance was NOT presumed, she had to learn she could trust me and then choose to do it.

There was a vacination program for wild foxes in europe

Somewhere in Russia there is a lab that is breeding domesticated foxes.

Video got the domestication process wrong.

As AI generated content, this is pretty good.  I just wish they would proof read the text in the graphics.

I heard they have really bad Body odor

A wild fox stepping toward the hand doesn't hold meaning just because it's rare, nor does it lack meaning just because it's common in a domesticated fox.  We may VALUE it more when it's rare, but that doesn't mean it's objectively more valuable.  Your video toward the end suggests it's objectively more valuable and has more meaning until it's bred to be common.  That's simply untrue.

The fox that initially stepped toward the human had as much choice as the domesticated fox, considering they both stepped toward the human, which means they had zero choice as it's what they inherently wanted to do.  Multiplying that choice in a population of domesticated foxes doesn't make the choice meaningless.
