That last one: the ball if the century. Warne’s first ball in test cricket in England. A legend was born

'Ripper' is Aussie for something that's really good.

Swing miss no run =dot ball

Even in the “downtime” between wickets, there’s a game of cat and mouse happening between bowler and batter.

And babe ruth is the DON BRADMAN of baseball. Not the other way around.

"I'd love to have a go at bowling" in the 70s I was a Phys. Ed teacher in Australia and we had several US teachers visit, superb athletes one and all, college basketball players etc. They all had a go at bowling and it was hilarious, none could master the action, you need to grow up learning it.

Hey guys! I watched your previous cricket videos and Love seeing the cricket interest here. You guys are actually on the right track!  But I saw some confusion and thought why not clear these doubts....
To help clear up those lingering confusions before the Olympics, here is a quick breakdown of how the game flows:
The Formats (The "Game Lengths")
Most of the core rules stay exactly the same, but the length of the game changes. While you might hear about Test matches (the classic 5-day version) or ODIs (50 overs per team), the Olympics will feature the T20 format. This is the fast-paced, high-energy version where each team only gets 20 overs (120 pitches/balls) to bat.
Running & Scoring (When can you run?)
Unlike baseball, you don’t have to run if you hit the ball. But if you do want to score, here is how it works:
• The Window to Run: Once the batsman hits the ball, both batsmen can keep running back and forth to score runs until the ball is "dead"—meaning the fielding team has successfully recovered it and thrown it back to the bowler or the wicketkeeper.
• Bye Runs (No swing needed): Even if the batsman misses the ball completely, doesn't swing, or if the bowler throws a "Wide" or a "No Ball," the batsmen can still sprint to the opposite side to steal a run if they think they can make it safely. These are called Byes.
• Leg Byes (Body deflections): If the ball misses the bat but ricochets off the batsman's pads or body, they can still run and score. These are called Leg Byes.
The Ultimate Freebie: No Balls
Think of a No Ball like an illegal pitch (usually because the bowler stepped over the line).
• The batting team automatically gets 1 penalty run added to their score.
• The ultimate safety net: The batsman can swing as hard as they want to score even more runs off that pitch. If a fielder catches the ball in the air, the batsman is NOT out. It is essentially a free hit where you cannot be dismissed by a catch.
Hope this helps make the Olympic broadcasts even more fun to watch! Let me know if you have any other questions!

It’s great to hear two of the late great cricket commentators on some of these clips. Richie Benaud (Australia) and Tony Greig (English domiciled South African) were great players in their younger days, and unforgettable commentators later.

2:58 Yes. The provincial team in Durban, South Africa is called the Dolphins

Guys! It’s Don Bradman. The absolute OG.

Yes, they do have rain delays. In test cricket a rain delay could last a whole day or two, but they don't extend the matches for delays they still finish at the scheduled time.

11:34 Ball of the century ❤❤❤❤ Shane Warne ❤❤❤❤

As a fellow yank, cricket is definitely a game worth learning. The more you learn and watch the better it gets. I love it as much as I do baseball now. Fantastic sport with tons of history.

Shaye warne is one of the legends in spin bowling (ball drops and turns to a different direction)

Don BRADMAN - He won't be upset, no longer with us.

‘Real Cricket’ is a really good cricket game.

i love how you guys came so far in few weeks

For the one where it hit the batter's hand-  in cricket the glove is considered part of the bat. So coming off the glove and being caught is the same as coming off the bat and being caught.

Hi Lads. I am really enjoying your cricket learning journey. I see that you are understanding it more and more. Well done.
PS keep ‘em coming.

It is not just the ball coming off the pitch or the way the ball is bowled that causes it to move. Every pitch (the rectangle in which the batters are in the middle of the field) is different from every ground. Some are suited to spin bowling, some are suited to fast bowling. The pitch is protected from rain (they stop play and put a cover on it for professional games at least), but the longer the game goes, it can get cracks in it, and if the ball lands on it when bowling that can make it deflect in a different direction). Changing the length of the bowl (where it bounces) also keeps the batter guessing, do they (the batters) attack on their front foot or step backwards etc.

There were a few “Yorkers” bowled in this compilation as well. They are bowled so they bounce on the batters toes or nearly at the stumps. A great Yorker is hard to play, and magical to watch.

The pace bowlers chew up the pitch at their end for the spinner at the other end can utilise damaged surface for extra spin.
