In this video, I’m talking about Bible journaling for beginners—especially for anyone who has ever wondered, ā€œWhat am I supposed to write?ā€

When I first started Bible journaling, I didn’t know there was a Bible journaling community. I simply bought a Bible with wide margins and started doing what interesting to me—comparing translations, looking up words and copying verses in different translations. I also recorded reflections, prayed scripture, wrote down ā€œDear Fatherā€ prayers, and took notes on what I was learning from Scripture.

For me, Bible journaling doesn’t have to be artistic at all. It can be as simple as taking notes, writing prayers, comparing translations, doing word studies, highlighting, or recording what you’re learning from Scripture. And for those who are more artistic—or who simply want to explore their creativity—it can also include acrylic paint, watercolor, lettering, calligraphy, collage, stickers, and other forms of creative expression.

Today we’re comparing two NIV Journal the Word Bibles: the NIV Journal the Word Bible for Women and the NIV Journal the Word Bible for Teen Girls. They each have over 450 journaling prompts. I looked at prompts from some of the same passages, including Genesis, Ruth, and Proverbs 31, and found that although the prompts were different, many of the prompts in the teen edition were still thoughtful and completely appropriate for adult women.

I’m also sharing two Bible journaling books: Faith Journaling for the Inspired Artist by Stephanie Ackerman and A Girl’s Guide to Bible Journaling by Kristin Duran. Both offer ideas for people who want more guidance, inspiration, or creative ways to engage with Scripture and are appropriate for all ages.

And yes, there’s a giveaway. Two winners will each receive one Bible and one Bible journaling book, but which bundle you receive will be a surprise.

Please note that both Bibles were purchased pre-loved and contain a small amount of light highlighting and/or writing. The Bible journaling books are new.

The point of Bible journaling is not to create a perfect page. It is to engage with the Word of God in a way that helps you read, reflect, pray, study, and remember.
