The compassion in this episode was remarkable. Real men who had real values. Times of war bring out the worst but here we see real humanity displayed because of war. The kommandant is a humanitarian pity we live in an age where politicians and leaders have no honour no chivalry no humanity.

The way they are yelling, they might as well invite Uhlman to join their escape organization.

Hans Meyer has such an intense actor.  He steals every scene.

Hans Meyer: extraordinary actor and (South African/French) man.
And this classic series really is completely peerless.

Thank you very much for uploading this excellent series which I watched with my now late father when I was an adolescent. One of the finer British shows, featuring brilliant actors and good gripping plots. My father served in the 2nd world war and I sensed that many of his own war memories came to his mind while he watched this series. Re-watching this with middle aged eyes, I truly appreciate an era long gone - not the carnage of wartime - but when men possessed selflessness, honor, principles and true courage.

Bernard Hepton, who plays Karl, the kommandant, is magnificent as well. He really sells the concept of a man trying hard to do the right thing despite his back being up against the wall.

I was always impressed by the French soldier coming back a second time to try and help the British soldier through the wire. Good people those French.

no one can deny he has presence....

This is the 4th episode I have watched and it has left me humbled and in awe that the script and actors have painted such a vivid and moving story so succinctly, in every step, in such a short period of time to do so.

This episode stuck close to home for me.
In 1983 a close friend I served with in the RAF was sent to the Falkland islands, soon after the war had ended, for six months. He left behind his newly married wife in their married quarters. When he returned, she told him she had learnt to live her own life, moved out and wanted a divorce. When he moved back into the Airman's block we all took turns to keep an eye on him as he was suicidal.
A few years later, another friend got sent to the Ascension island for his six months detachment. He got his 'Dear John' letter whilst there and took his own life.
Military life has its costs. Most of us know we could be killed or injured in the line of duty, but we never expected to receive the deepest of wounds from a person that used to said "I love you".

Outstanding drama.

LOL took me a bit to recognise Prentiss Hancock under all that hair!

Facinating how these tv series  differ from movies or 🎥  films

Could be worse like in Stalag 17 when one of the POW's receives a letter from his Wife saying she found a baby on the front doorstep who actually has the same eyes and nose as hers.

The rest of the movie you hear him repeating that he believes his Wife's story.

The Flight Lieutenant is in the RAF and would receive the relevant British rate of pay, not the USA rate of pay.

i love this its a great watch.. based on true story too obviously some fictional but some is true like the glider they made but never got to use and they tested the theory if it would work too it passed the test

Someone can say this series boring but remember when this is made!
Time when not so hurry than nowadays
Excellent TV series😊

Michael Sinclair (aka 'the Red Fox' ) was the inspiration for this story, so the role was well cast physically. But he went to a major Public School (Winchester) & then to Cambridge: his accent would be 'plummy'. Actually, the Germans buried him in Colditz with full military honours, his coffin covered in the Union Jack (which had been made specially by the Germans). He was the only POW in Colditz to be shot & killed there, btw. 🙂

Dear Francois lol
