The Howard Cosell of wrestling. The voice that every promoter wanted, the experience to make it valuable, and the chops to work with even a sack of potatoes and make 'em shine.

Mean Gene had the best voice in the history of the business.

Mean Gene has a wealth of knowledge and it's great to listen to him talk about the old territory days I always loved the NWA I got to watch it at my grandparents house in Marion VA. During the summers off from school then back to Baltimore where I grew up I watched WWF the rest of the year , but I couldn't wait until summers to watch NWA , Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling , and Georgia Championship Wrestling

What a pleasant voice to listen to.

Everytime I hear a story like this, it amazes how fucking cheap and short-sighted successful people are. AWA leadership in this case.

When I listen to these interviews with the guys from the Golden Era, it's almost like we're catching up with them and no time has passed. Their legacies really will live forever.

Verne was headlining in the 1940's. The fact that he's booking himself as the top guy in the 1980's is a complete refusal to flow with the times.

I loved the NWA!!! The best.... back in the day...early 80's

Mean Gene was the greatest. As a young kid in the early '80s, watching AWA wrestling on KMSP channel 9 every Saturday, I loved this guy. He was the booming voice from the mountaintop.
