Out of five pokes I got 63.4 avg on one blade the next blade I got 64.1 avg . Both magnamax.  I use a phase 2 hrc tester calibrated between each test . Great video keep it up !

The most surprising thing to me was the massive difference in toughness between magnacut and magnamax. I didn't realize it was that great. But I verified and you are correct. Im not sure that I'm willing to give up that much toughness for a 30-40% increase in edge retention. For an every day user I think I'll be sticking with magnacut.

In a time where lot's of steel vanish with a business closure, it's nice to see new one come on the markets. I'm sure some "need" this new steel and I think they keep pushing the limits and I love it! :)

Very interesting, thank you very much. I recently bought the Spyderco Mantra, also with 8Cr13Mov, I've had no issues with it. I think the blade is thinner than on your model, so I wouldn't use it for hard tasks anyway, and I find it to be a very good light duty EDC knife. Super light too. Thank you for your video !

Feel like hardness is a good indicator but not the only factor. Feel the microstructure is a huge proponent as well

Phenomenal video as always!!!! I’ve converted to Lc200n I have it in two native chiefs and the glorious autonomy 2. Lc200n is fine for an out door guy like myself. Have brought the native chief Lc200n to casperson beach wail fossil shark tooth hunting its great. The knife was submerged in the water with me for almost 6 hours I rinsed in sink after and no rust kinda wild. Love your content sending love from FL!

I've had mine 2 weeks Saturday and although I've seen a couple videos on the Manix and the other 2 it was your video I've been waiting on. Don't get me wrong, I've never met a Manix 2 I didn't love but seeing your scientific approach and overall blessing gives me much more confidence and happiness with the knife. Thank you for keeping us informed with honest, impartial reviews and data... As one commenter said, "you're doing God's work"!

I think im going to hold out for a little while until they master it. Still feel there is changes they will fine tune. Been a big fan of cts xhp, k390, 15v, and s90v. Those will hold me over.

In my opinion Spyderco makes the best heat treatment on factory knives, especially on extreme sprint runs (Maxamet, 15V BBB, K390...).
Huge active collection with them, by many years.
Got also excellent sharpening experience from Buck 663 Elite Magnacut and some Benchmades.

For my tastes I don't like steels with chrome over 15% (M390 worst, Elmax and ZDP189... all abandoned by me 👎 I will take D2 / K110 over them easily), only exeptions: S45VN, XHP and N690 still working well, in this "excessive chrome" group S45VN is king.
S45VN is way more "bity" then M390, same geometries, same sharpening, similar HRCs.

I found limited chrome steels way faster to sharpen and quicker to develop extreme hair splitting apex accuracy.
My favourite chrome window is 7-13%, favourite steels: CruWear, Magnacut, K390, 4V (not 3V low carbon for me) and D2 (K110).
I hope to see "K390 V2" with 10% chrome and 3% tungsten, if Böhler will make it.

Maxamet is truly exeptional, "aliens stuff" 🛸🔝😆👍, also 15V BBB 🐻 and K390 V1

D2 is my favourite for cost effectiveness, for Amazonian people 😆, never get tired of it.

For land environments and with modern lubes I found low and medium chrome steels perfectly fine.
For boat salt environments I will go with S45VN, N690 or Sandvik (better 19c27 not inferior carbon, 1% minimum).

CPM S series stainless work also very well and I like them too, with chrome in 13-15% range, favourite is S110V but got excellent edges also from S30V, S35VN and Spy27 (that took a very high definition mirror finish 0.5 micron).
I prefer lower chrome but S serie is very good, excellent variety for all customers.

US made a very wise choiche to not limit variety, making everyone happy.

I avoid high chrome steels, over 15%, like the plauge 😵‍💫😱👎

After more than 15 years of edc use, I’m still very happy with my spyderco 8cr13mov knife. Not bad for about $25, 15+ years ago. It’s still in great shape. The G10 handle has worn significantly along the edges, adding a nice shiny patina. I’ve since purchased a lifetime supply of them, just in case it fails or gets lost some day.

Thanks for the Video sir! I had a hunch magnamax would fall short in corrosion resistance. The Spyderco Mule apparently did. Probably the Larrin scale results will be a 5 / 7 / 8.5, Toughness/ Edge Retention/ Corrosion Resistance. That’s my guess. Too bad but still worth considering for many applications. Just might want to coat that blade for the ultimate rust prevention.

Woah. 30 ft/lbs difference in toughness between MagnaCut and MagnaMax is extreme. I was veryyy unaware of how non tough MagnaMax is and I don’t think I’ll be purchasing any blades with it now.
