I keep thinking of the people who designed and built these Gun turrets just amazing

Deep respect to all the men who worked in those gun turrets. I don't think you could ever say thank you enough for the service and sacrifice that the gentlemen gave.

Love it!!!  My uncle died on iwo jima. Last day if fighting. Love my heros. And this country.

10:23  I’d love to see one of these fully crewed out. I find it impossible to imagine just how many people were on these ships.

The engineering is insane. Of course everything was steel/iron/optics

This gent knows that's why it flows !

We used to go there on field trips in school and with our Baptist church youth group. I still go back as an adult. I love the Showboat

nice video greetings from uruguay

on a visit I saw an amazing sight.
A piece of furniture about 4 feet tall, like a set of drawers.
Each drawer responded to a deck level of the ship, from the bilge to the deck all the way up to the crows nest.
entire decks with "Eggs" or "Flour" or "Milk" labels on  storerooms where they had to store the food for 1200 some men, and resupply it all every 2 weeks.
Amazing.

Love the volunteers at The USS North Carolina! I have taken the Big Bang Tour and Hidden Battleship Tour this year and they are amazing! Extremely organized and knowledgeable.
North Carolina is my home and I'm so proud of this ship and memorial. Definitely visit if you get the chance!

You didn’t hear the shell coming. It’s supersonic. If you hear the shell it’s already gone past you and therefore you are safe.

I'm sorry, they did not re-bore the barrels, they relined them. The barrels would be placed in a furnice and the barrel would expand, and allow them to remove the liner. The liner is what had the grooves and lands cut into it. They insert the new liner, cool the barrel, and it gets tight around the liner.

At 6:54 you can hear the ghost of the turret's shihtzu mascot.

I live in Swansea Ma. The battle ship Massachusetts has been in Fall River Ma since I was a little boy, I’m 60 years old and it is still impressive to visit, along with all the other WW2 naval vessels. My wife and I vacationed in Hawaii last year and toured the Missouri at Pearl Harbor and she was twice the size of Massachusetts.

I was in the turret on the USS Wisconsin.  I didn't realize what I was looking at.
It would have been nice to have this gentleman there.

I've been in the one on the USS Alabama

We in North Carolina saved the ship after the war through donations of school children's lunch money in the early 1960's. A battleship commission was formed and used the funds to buy the ship from the U S Government. The USS North Carolina was the most decorated battleship of WW II. It was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and fought off numerous air attacks. It is located in Wilmington on the Cape Fear River where thousands visit it every year.

When I was working in Wilmington Last Summer we drove by the ship every day. I had to give her a salute each time i drove by.

the first weekend we were there we took a tour of it. it was amazing to see the history and knowing the history of it. you can still feel the energy of all those that have served on her and those that were lost in combat. I went out early to get some awesome drone footage of it.

My grandfather had been on board the Maryland with the same 16 it's gone so was extra special when we visited that part of the ship

Amazing times during World War II. Our country seems to be lost when it comes to building ships quickly like these Battleships. The USS Laffey (World War II Navy Destroyer) sitting at Patriot's Point in the Charleston SC area, was built and in combat in six months from the time they laid the keel. Now I read stories where the munitions used in Iran will take 3 years to replace. Yeah, one has to wonder what happens if the US ever gets into another big conflict.

The USS North Carolina, and the rest of the surviving battleships are amazing monuments to a long ago era, and serve to remind us of a most amazing generation of people.

I read the same thing about the 5 inch guns in a book, but they were referring to the noise from the shot
