Toured the ship twice and had the pleasure of partaking in two Halloween Event Parties dressed as Davy Jones in 2010 and 2011.  God Bless our men in women in arms and all those who lost their lives for a free America. 💙💙💙

Proud to have this piece of American Military history in my small hometown!

This is an awesome video man. Appreciate you making it and putting it out.

1:08:47, The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war. That's the first time I've heard about that saying.

Oh, as awesome as the tour is, the engineering deck, the power plant, the turbines pushing the ship forward, the boilers providing the steam, the turbines turning the generators. They are the interesting decks. Thats the excitement.

Visited it in May 26 and it was a pleasure
Greetings from Switzerland

damn 100 battles in 15 months, that was 66 2/3 battles per month.  Math is not my strong suit, but I think that breaks down to about a battle every 10 days or so.  And to not take any damage is fucking mind boggling.

I really like the tour guide..

My uncle, Ewalt Berkobenz was assigned to Hornet 8 until her sinking. Transferred to the Wasp until her sinking, when Hornet 12 arrived on assignment. He was transferred to Hornet 12. When the crew learned of his history. He was shunned until he earned the crews trust.

I went there as a toddler the same year it was opened as a museum ship. Can still vividly remember it.

I did this tour last month. I did not know that it had an exposed control room open to the sky! They later put a removable roof on it.

That man reminds me so much of my dad. Rip pops. My dad was in the army but in the Vietnam war he did some kind of river patrol boat stuff. I heard people talking with him and about him and apparently it was some kind of hardcore stuff almost like navy seal kinda work but I didn’t ask him much about it because he didn’t really like to share a lot about it. I would take him to his VA doctors appointments and years ago when they were going to see if he qualified for agent orange compensation one doctor started asking him questions about where he had set foot in Vietnam and he started rattling off some places and the doctor had a look of disbelief on his face. He said “oh. Oh yeah you’re going to qualify for the agent orange but how did you make it out of there without losing body parts?” Turns out some of those areas were heavily mined and the doctor started talking about a guy he had just seen that same day that lost both his legs at one of the places my dad was and my dad looked the doctors in the eyes and said “doc I’m well aware of what happened there. Can we just move on please”. 😆 I have so much respect for these veterans and the guys that help preserve and share history. If I was financially capable of volunteering to help on a museum ship… I would absolutely be driving to the nearest one(probably at least a 7 hour drive each way) to volunteer. So many thanks to all you veterans, volunteers, and just great people that show respect for those that gave everything so some can have freedom. 🫡

This is cool, a friend of mine used to work on the Hornet back in the MSN messenger days.  Its great to see his former workplace!

Nice.  I stayed onboard with my stepson and the cubscouts.  Good times.

CV-12  was the last ship my CPO  father served on, retiring in '54.  Took the tour a few years back and part of it was seeing the chief's quarters and the elecrical shop where he worked (still being used  for restoration work). Looked like it could have been the same bench and vise that would have been there 60 years before.

Glad this ship still alive for people to explore. Hope more areas would be restored for exploration. I like kitchens on ships though.  Wish we saw more of this ship areas. So much effort was put to build that vessel.

Wonderful to keep history alive! Thank you!

I’m from Brazil and I really admire the work you’re doing there in the US. I hope that one day my country leaves socialism behind and we can stand side by side with you.

I've known Carl for over 10 years. He's one of the best docents the USS Hornet has. Every docent aboard has lots of stories and knows a lot of history. Well worth your time to see the ship.

Back in 2002-07 I worked across from the Hornet in one of those airplane hangars with our windows facing it. Such a cool unobstructed daily sight along with the skyline view. Matrix Reloaded in the larger hangars next door and the freeway scene out on the runway then set up post production in one of the barracks and blacked out all the windows. Also watched Mythbusters in person when they launched water heaters episode. They had to warn us before every “launch”. So everyone involved has no doubt toured the Hornet.
