I think that blaming the Hanford for Greg's death was a convenient way to ignore that the infield design was at fault, given that it was a track built by the most powerful team owner in the series. The team owner who was about to be Greg's boss. The team owner who had already lost a driver the month before.

My favorite era of IndyCar. CART was still the leader in American Open Wheel racing at this point. These cars were just basically rocket ships with wings to keep them on the ground. I remember when I had a chance to talk to Alex Tagliani a few years ago at a NASCAR Canada Series meet and greet, I asked him about that era and his time driving those cars. He talked about the infamous CART Texas race weekend and he couldn't handle the speeds.

Tony George should have been incredibly suspicious when Bill France enthusiastically supported the idea of splitting open-wheel racing.

France knew that racing is racing and that by splitting open-wheelers, Nascar would be the default beneficiary.

It's been 19 years since the last IndyCar race at Michigan, and it's been 25 years since the last 500 mile race at Michigan.  It's hard to believe it's been that long.

This is the racing that got me HOOKED. It was hard to believe that the warriors I saw on the Surfers Paradise streets do this the next race. It's beyond excitement.

I’ve coincidentally gotten into watching old IndyCar races in the last couple of weeks and had heard mention of the Handford Device, so this is really quite enlightening!

I watch this and I remember just how much fun these years were. Until we lost Greg Moore. ..RIP to he and Alex Zanardi

Imagine if the Handford device was introduced today. It would be instantly derided as artificial racing.

I was at that 1998 Michigan race.

My jaw was on the floor for 250 laps.

We didn't know how good we had it.  IndyCar absolutely needs to go back to both MIS and Pocano for 500 mile races.
