In this episode of ROCK BOTTOM, host Mayssa Chehata sits down with performer, writer, and digital creator Wildlin Pierrevil @NotWildlin to talk about grief, creativity, masculinity, and learning to rebuild after loss.
Wildlin reflects on growing up in Orlando as the son of Haitian refugees, navigating a loving but emotionally tense childhood, and finding an early outlet in theater, music, and art.
His first rock bottom began when his mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of spinal cancer. What was expected to be a short illness became a five-year journey through remission, hospital stays, caregiving, and uncertainty before she passed away when Wildlin was 15.
During that time, Wildlin found an unlikely source of guidance in anime. Stories like Fullmetal Alchemist gave him a framework for thinking about grief, family, resilience, responsibility, and the kind of person he wanted to become. He also watched his father step into caregiving and redefine his understanding of masculinity in real time.
Years later, Wildlin faced another turning point when a difficult professional theater experience forced him to question the career he had spent years pursuing. At the same time, social media was opening a new path — one that allowed him to combine performance, writing, comedy, storytelling, and entrepreneurship.
Wildlin and Mayssa explore grief, religion, masculinity, creativity, learning from women, generational healing, and why he no longer wants to “save himself for later.”
