i promise I'll do a real bad one, a real flipping horrid game, a real frekking experience of a sonic game next time i do a sonic video

Man, the game where Stage Select is accessed by... crashing the game...
For anyone that doesn't know, to trick SEGA the developers deliberately made the crash handler a level select warp. It's amazing trolling honestly.

Green "Grove" Zone. A Grove is a group of trees with little to no undergrowth (differentiating it from a forest) or a group of trees specifically cultivated for fruit or nut production.

I'm having a Sonic 3D Blast!

I remember playing this on Mega Collection. Also, Tt were wizards at coding/design and yet many studios forced them to rush out low-quality games

To earn extra credits, collect more Sonic medallions. You'll know if you got enough for another credit when the continue sound effect plays.

Yes, it's true. This game killed my mother. Sega and I settled out of court.

This game’s existence was worth it just for its soundtrack

A grove (not groove) is a small wooded area without bushes.

But yeah, I have nothing else to add. Sonic 3D Blast is one of the most okay games ever created lol. The Genesis version probably has one of my favorite Sonic OSTs though.

0:10 Lego purgatory happened.

no. This was actually a pretty good game. It only got hate cause it was different from the numbered games. I remember at the time, people pretty much hated anything that isnt like it's first appearance. Whether it be a movie sequel, new season to a show, or be it a video game.

10:14 The bosses only take damage when you hit the top glass part of them. The middle parts usually bounce you off and the bottom parts actually CAN damage you. So if you're unsure about how to hit the boss, you generally need to get high up enough to hit the glass dome OR you need to bring them low enough for you to hit the glass dome.

I've heard lots of people argue about the Genesis vs the Saturn version and I agree that they're both great, but I grew up with the PC version which was basically a Saturn game port so I'm biased towards the Saturn soundtrack and graphics.

I did finally get around to playing the Genesis version because of RetroAchievements and I really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's a flawed game and actually could be pretty cool if it was remade today, but I'm glad we got it. I don't regret playing it. This and Sonic R were my first two 3D Sonic games even if they weren't what we may have expected back then. I loved them for what they were and I did actually have a BLAST.

Sonic 3D Blast walked so that Sonic Robo Blast 2 could run.

As someone who rented the  Genesis version and owned the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast, I can say with absolute certainty that the game is NOT the worst platformer, ever. It was just released very late and changed the Sonic gameplay formula. If you're curious, there is a series of videos from a programmer who worked on the Genesis port, where he goes into detail about working around the console's hardware limitations to produce pseudo-3D effects.

Sonic '06 and Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (GBA), on the other hand, are complete dumpster fires that you gotta' see to believe just how badly Sega and Sonic Team messed up the franchise at that point.

If you do Sonic fan games down the line, I think that Sonic Robo Blast 2 would be a good one.   It is like as if Sonic R was made into a full-length platformer, all done in the DOOM engine.

Red Zone for the Mega Drive also had quasi-FMV sequences (it was released in '94 and it was a shoot-'em-up).

I actually liked this game honestly.
I never got the hate for it, but honestly the early Internet tends to hate on any Sonic game that isn't just running from left to right, or something.

0:09 I miss the raccoon thing from the old Travelers Tales logo. It changed aroinf the time they were bought by Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, but I think they made the change before the sale.

Between 3D Blast going in an experimental direction, most people not having the context that 3D Blast was based on an old Arcade game named Flicky, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles being such a great game in its day that anything that followed it that didn't match or exceed its quality, would be deemed a massive disappointment, it is not suprising people disliked it back in the day.

Though if you give it time, learn all of its weird quirks, and don't unfairly judge it, it is pretty much an above average and mostly inoffensive game.

Sonic 3D Blast always has a soft spot for me as I played it while in the hospital as a kid
