Do I make the jump to the 1200cc Scrambler? Stretch my legs out and enjoy the larger seat or do I stick with the 900 Scram and enjoy the machine I’ve built?

Let me know!

I had a new 2025 900 scrambler, with Zard exhausts, barkbusters, hi fender, fox shocks. I loved that bike, i did over 3000 miles on it in 10 months... then my dealer threw me the keys to their 1200x demonstrator , oh my god. That engine , the way it rode.. ive done 3000 miles on my 1200 scrambler already, damn that salesman lol. I havnt fitted and mods to the 1200, just rode it. I prefer the looks and sound that my 900 had, but the engine, brakes and sheer grunt the 1200 has, won me over. Both awesome bikes .

I know I've said it before, but the annoying thing about my 900 are the tubed tyres... The 400 and 1200s have tubeless.

Had the XE showcase edition , fantastic bike and regrettably sold it … now have the X and no regrets 👌🏻💪🏼

Love my XE 👌

I owned a 900 for almost 4 years and I've had a 1200 XE for 3. 1200, definitely, for the extra punch and the tubeless tyres. But... I wish there was a model with the X seat height, Brembos and adjustable suspension like the XE, and a 19-inch front wheel.

I’ve have the 2023 model 900 and love it to bits.

I live in a densely populated city so filtering through tight spaces is a factor.
Being able to flatfoot the bike while in traffic the city is excellent.

The rest of the time I’m out on country lanes where I love the low speed low down torque in the twisties.
and do very little motorway, So am not looking for the extra power of the 1200.

I've got the 1200x and because of my age and limited height, have thought about dropping down to the 900. I love the power and comfort of the 1200, but the high-up weight is a concern when riding at low speeds and pushing it around. Similarly, I've added too many accessories which makes a change to the smaller bike financial suicide 😂

I bought a used 2018 Triumph Street Scrambler 900 two years ago for a really good price, and for my needs, I’d still choose it over the Scrambler 1200.
Most of my riding is in the city, with only occasional adventure trip with my friends. The 900 is lighter, easier to handle in traffic and parking lots, more manageable at low speeds, and still has enough torque and power for highways, back roads, and longer trips. The 1200 is obviously more capable off-road and better suited for serious touring, but I wouldn’t use those advantages often enough to justify the extra weight, power, and cost.
I’m also a tall rider at 6'4", so I installed the Free Spirits raising kits, approximately +36 mm at the rear and +30 mm at the front. That made the bike taller, improved the ground clearance, and made the riding position much better for my height.
For someone who mainly rides in the city but still wants to explore gravel roads and do occasional adventure trips with my friends, the modified 900 feels like the better-balanced choice. Maybe the 1200 would be an upgrade in my older days haha

Love your scrambler! Looking for The zard exhaust.

SCRAM! Great video but have caused me confusion as I'd almost settled on the 900. Will test the 12! 😁

XC is the sweet spot!!! Too bad they don’t make it anymore

I'm in exactly the same boat, buddy. I have a Scrambler 900 and I absolutely love it. It's hands down the best bike I've ever ridden. But I test rode a Scrambler 1200 X last week, and now I can't stop thinking about it. Like you said, it's "same same, but different."

For anyone saying the 1200 is the obvious choice, I'd say you probably haven't ridden a Scrambler 900!

The Scrambler 900 feels like it has a lower centre of gravity (or at least it feels that way to me). I think that's down to the 19-inch front wheel and the shorter front suspension, which makes it feel more flickable through corners and much easier to manoeuvre in traffic.

The 1200's engine obviously makes more power, and that really helps with motorway cruising and overtaking. But then again, who actually enjoys riding on motorways? It's a naked bike after all, so there's only so much wind protection you're going to get. The 900 delivers its power in a much more linear, predictable way, which makes it easier to manage, especially around town. On country roads or weekend blasts, though, I honestly have zero complaints about it. You can pin the throttle and it'll rip through back roads and twisties all day long without feeling out of its depth.

One thing I also noticed with the 1200 is that it throws out noticeably more heat. If you're riding in heavy stop-start traffic, you'll definitely feel it on your right leg.

But that being said 1200X has better brakes, better suspension, 6 gears, tubeless tires, can pull like a train with luggage/pillion, can go longer distances without stressing you out too much.

So the one thing that was missing was the difference between the MPG!! I heard the 900 is some what of a guzzler! any truth to that? How often do you fill up?

@gospeltractslove 7 days ago (edited)

I just bought 2026 900, the tires are now tubeless, and cruise control can be added by your Triumph dealer, imo the 1200 is too tall and heavy, for me I prefer the smaller bike to be able to maneuver and manipulate easier at my old age.

Unless the gearing has been changed since I moved from 900 to 1200, top gear (6th) on the 1200 is actually lower than top (5th) on the 900. Easily fixed if alternative sprockets are available, of course.

1200xe all day long

Hmm decisions decisions, I can understand why you are in such a turmoil. If the money isn't a issue and the height thing isnt an issue either then go for it. I don't think you will regret it infact you might regret not choosing the 1200 in the first place.
I traded my Bonnie in for a BMW within a couple of months and once the honeymoon period was over i regretted the chopping in the Bonnie. 5 years later BMW gone and a new Bonnie sitting in its place.

1200 X

@ScruffysOwner 2 months ago

I've just been and test-rode a 2026 Scrambler 900 and a 2026 Scrambler XE - I loved the feel of the 900, and the (low) height, but while I was put off the XE by the height of it, I did like the extra power/torque it gave... the sales guy suggested the 2026 Scrambler X as a compromise - only slightly higher than the 900 (50cm shorter than the XE) but with the torque/power of the XE, the only thing was they didn't have a demo Scrambler 1200X available! I'm still looking to try out the X before making a purchase decision, could I ask where you test rode yours? If it's not too far away, I'll be looking to head over and give it a go!
